Maybe you readers have grown tired of my glowing reviews of this little gem hidden in New Haven, Indiana. I'm going to keep telling you about it until you experience it for yourself. We had not been in a while, which Tommy pointed out, as well as the fact that his real name is THOMAS, the minute we hit the door it was "WHERE have YOU been?" He makes me laugh out loud with his insanity. While we had been conducting life, they added the most amazing and delish dish of Chicken Parmesan EVER! I was thinking I'd get a little piece of chicken but TWO huge breast pieces arrived steaming. I don't know how they make all their dishes steam upon delivery. I love getting hot food that's supposed to be. The new dish had two options, with broccoli and potatos, which isn't for me, or pasta, which IS. Also had a salad with it which is a tad unusual for Salvatori's. A great value at $13.99! I had enough to bring home for a lunch the next day. The spaghetti came already tossed in their delicious marinara and with two pieces of focaccia bread. I DO dearly love this place. I also enjoy Tommy, who has the most wicked sense of humor. Truckers, please don't feel like you can't go in here by yourself and take up a table, Thomas loves truckers because truckers love good food. As my favorite Italian place adds new dishes, I will keep returning to it. and to you, Thomas, (LOL) for your fantastic service. I hesitate at times to share this treasure with you because some day, if you're reading this, I will not be able to get in at all any day of the week. Tommy's side is always on the right as you walk in the door. Ask for him, please, tell him you read about him on TripAdvisor. He loves the fame.

New Haven is a rather small place with a nice local bakery that is worth a visit. This bakery offers a rich assortment of donuts. I really enjoyed the large apple fritter. The waitstaff were very friendly and the prices quite reasonable. If you want a little sugar in your tank. this is the place. I visited on a week day morning and they were not too busy. It is definitely a local favorite.

A quiet Sunday morning in town. I stopped for breakfast after an hour drive. They were very busy, but I was seated at the counter right away. I had their Ham and Swiss Cheese Omelet with "American " Fries (sliced fried potatoes) and toast at less than $8. Food came fairly quickly. Very filling. Many locals. Staff seemed to know most by name.

We stopped for the "facilities" and were enticed by the cinnamon buns and peppermint hot chocolate.
The facility is clean and well maintained.
It was especially nice seeing people into their jobs. Sure, they were working it to sell their products, but friendly and a sense of humor goes a long way in bringing a bright spot to everyone's day.

Have had their pizza several times when I have been in town. Pizzas are ok, but I've had better....and I've had worse. Most recently we stopped for lunch and I tried their taco salad and my husband had their Italian Grinder. He is from the NE and pretty picky about "grinders"....but he said it was an "acceptable substitute" for the Midwest. My taco salad, was quite good. Will continue to grab a bite at Mancino's when I'm in town another time.

Trion Tavern

Reviewed By Cynthia S - New Haven, Indiana

The Trion Tavern is one of those small town landmarks that has managed to stay relevant by being one of the first bars in the area that catered to the interest in new and numerous beers on tap. We started visiting to enjoy the wing special and keep coming back for the beer. They have a family room and separate traditional bar so any type group can partake. There is also outside seating in nice weather. Service is friendly, but turnover on staff means there is sometimes a learning curve with a server. The wings are the highlight of the unremarkable menu. It's typical bar food, not exceptional and not bad. Lots of beers on the menu, be prepared with a second choice as often they end up not available at times. Beer prices are not on the menu. If budget is a concern, ask! Some craft beers are pricey. They do take care to serve the beers in the correct glass for the beer, which mot all bars do. There is parking behind the restaurant. New Haven is a smoking friendly community, but the Trion's choice to keep the family room means it is a no smoking establishment.

Have to admit I'd never been out to this Hall's, but it was worth the drive. The menu is standard Hall's fare (i.e. good and plentiful). Had the steak, and was impressed by size, flavor and tenderness. Service is pretty good. The place itself is a bit dark, but I did enjoy the memorabilia on the walls.
