It's summertime in Chicago so my wife and I made it our hot-weather obligation to discover the best ice cream parlors in the city and suburbs. Original Rainbow Cone near 95th and Western and the Original Plush Horse in Palos Park are old standbys. If you scream for ice cream, you are aware of them. But there are others. And we set out to find them. Since opening in 2001, Jim Capannari's Ice Cream in Mount Prospect has emerged as one of the leading gourmet ice cream shops in the area. "Best ice cream in Chicago," reported Chicago Magazine only one year after Capannari opened. He only blends four gallons of ice cream at a time, guaranteeing freshness, and he creates truly distinctive flavors in addition to a wide variety of old-time favorites. Located at 10 South Pine Street, in the original Moehling General Store and Post Office that was built in downtown Mount Prospect in 1882, Capannari Ice Cream has turned the vintage two-story, wood-frame building with the original beams and white oak floors and wrap-around front porch into a popular go-to destination for people of all ages who come to enjoy a scoop or two or three. The menu includes cones, sundaes, ice cream sandwiches, ice cream bars, ice cream cakes, smoothies, milk shakes, malts, waffle cones, banana splits, chocolate covered bananas, hot fudge and caramel jars to go and hand-packed pints to go. But it's the more than 60 gourmet flavors of ice cream that attracts passengers from the Metra train. Sure, you can purchase the traditional flavors but it's the unique and one-of-a-kind flavors that keep us coming back for more. I only wish they packed quarts. Some of our favorites are black raspberry chip, coconut chip, praline pecan, blueberry lemon sorbet, Dutch apple pie, pineapple sorbet, mocha almond, chocolate hazelnut, pumpkin, strawberry cheesecake, malted butter fudge, egg nog and peach. Butterscotch, anyone? You never can walk in the door and walk out with just one or two pints.

Hello! We are a family owned Bistro! We have been in Mount Prospect for 26 years And recently opened another Retro Bistro in Crytstal Lake IL! Along with our son CJ ! Next generation! Hope you check us out! We are a "nicer" place without the higher pricing and stuffiness! Fun bar! Happy hour specials everyday!
This was our first-time visit to this store-front restaurant, and were we ever pleasantly surprised! We stopped in for lunch.and were promptly greeted by very friendly staff and seated.
The ambiance is what one would expect from a French bistro - simply-decorated, hardwood floors, and french music.
There are daily specials, and a price-fixe menu at lunch for $25. We split a pear salad, and both had the specials - a beef skewer, and chicken breast. Both had delicious sauces and were accompanied by fresh-cut vegetables.
There is an extensive wine list and dessert elections, which unfortunately we did not partake becasue this was a quick lunch for us. But we will definitely return, and recommend Retro Bistro for authentic French dining in Chicago's northwest suburbs!.

Lou Malnati was a pioneer in creating Chicago deep dish pizza. A fantastic butter crust, fresh toppings and great service! Great for families, as well as couples.
We frequently visit the one in Schaumburg. Located on the corner of two busy intersections and in a building that was once a very large home. Unique in its atmosphere and decor.
A nice relaxing bar area while waiting for your order, or waiting for friends.
Just a great place for a great dinner, spent with great friends!

Central Continental Bakery is located in downtown Mount Prospect. It is close to the Metra train station, so it's the perfect place for a good pastry for the commute downtown. But they also have really good hours. Besides pastries, Central Continental Bakery also offers a variety of cakes, cookies, breads and a whole lot more. There is even a section for sandwiches with a couple of tables. The staff is always friendly and unless they are extremely busy, they are efficient. You can not go wrong at Central Continental Bakery.

They sell seafood meals here but even better is the fresh seafood that they sell retail. The selection of top quality seafood is impressive. We ate lunch there. The only negative is ,no coffee. Not a huge problem for a place that sells wine with the meal. I had the grouper, grilled sandwich. It was very good. The price may seem high but considering the price of top quality seafood like I had, it is very fair. If you want to impress you inlaws or parents with how well you cook sea food, get the meat here.

Went there for the lunch special. Ordered the sesame chicken. It was excellent. The portions were huge!! Great service at the right price. The atmosphere was inviting. A very clean contemporary look. Will definitely return. Try to get there when they open at 11:30am. By noon, the place is packed! Also, for the lunch special, you get soup or salad, egg roll, entrée, rice, hot tea, and a fortune cookie!

Our extensive menu selections feature a modern American cuisine full of delicious choices.
Since I don't eat meat, I have three FAVORITE meals here. The first... Chicken de Jonghe... It isn't even on the menu, but years ago a waitress told me you can order it anytime. It is not greasy (like the shrimp can be) because the chicken soaks up the butter making it soooo tender. If you like garlic, try it, you'll like it. Now for the fish... It's a toss up. Between the Sea Bass and the Macadamia Nut Encrusted Halibut. They are both DELICIOUS. Always cooked to perfection.
For the meat lover, my family LOVES all the steaks.
Jameson's in Mt Prospect has been a family favorite for 40 years and will always be a special place!

Super fresh. Great fries, awesome hotdogs with all the fixings. Great burgers. Tiny little place that's a huge hit with local businesses. Great place to take the kids for lunch on a Saturday. Fresh, hot, quick fast food for when the bug hits you!

Home to America's favorite Chicago-style hot dogs, Italian beef, burgers, salads, and chocolate cake.
Wow...what a place. Wonderful atmosphere and very good fast food! I would highly recommend trying this restaurant. I look forward to returning on my next visit. Happy to know they are finally expanding throughout United States. Thank you!
