We were visiting old friends in Lanark, and they suggested Molly's. The olive plate appetizer was delicious: warmed marinated olives, hummus, candied walnuts, and the best focaccia bread I have ever tasted. Nice period decor, with tin ceiling and lots of wood. I would eat there again!

This building from over 100 years ago was burned out a couple decades ago, and was bought and restored. Beautiful interior, still working on getting the second floor useable. BUT in the meantime, there is a great sandwich place here and stuff for sale. Cool to visit, and eat breakfast or lunch here. Very friendly staff, not open later than 4pm most days. Public restrooms are here, very clean and modern.

This has the slowest service. The DQ in Morrison is the best, this would be the worst. Place is not fast, even drive thru is very slow. Litter on the floor and tables are not clean. This place needs a thorough retraining of management and staff. But we all go here because it's the only place in town, and seriously - Dairy Queen has wonderful soft-serve ice cream. We also Love the 5 buck meal with the hot gravy, and ice cream novelties like the ice cream sandwich and Dilly Bar.

While we drove from Lake Carroll last Saturday, my brother regularly rides his bike each way over rolling hills just for breakfast at the Café. It is so "middle America" with booths along the walls and tables in the middle with a couple of long tables for the locals/farmers to dine communally and swap stories. I'd recommend a table if you have more than 2 people as the booths are pretty tight. You may also want to move if you are getting a blast of air from the floor vents -- all part of the mystique, so to speak.
Our waitress was so down to earth, friendly, and attentive. She even sat at the adjacent table to take our orders, which made the encounter seem more friendly. The three of us each had separate breakfasts, and each was cooked to perfection with ample quantities -- pancakes are huge! She kept the coffee flowing until we had to cover our mugs. Prices are great, and you will not go away hungry, making the long ride worth it. Have to try lunch and dinner some day. By the way, cash or check only, and there is an ATM on site.

Most definitely a hole in the wall with a certain Twin Peaks feel to it. However we very pleasantly surprised with the food. The place was packed with locals and the smell of food was in the air. The Pizza is thin and crispy and we were not disappointed. It was very good. However the salad bar was incongruously placed about 4 feet from the front of the rest rooms doors. We passed on the salad.

I recently visited my home town, from which I've been gone for many years. My brother offered to treat me to Henry's. I was so very pleasantly surprised to dine there.
Being a small town like Mount Carroll, every one knows every one. Our waitress knew my brother, and the owner, Henry, knew him as well, and came by to greet our table.
To my delight, the food was really good (I'd expected hamburgers or pizza or frozen entrees). The first time we ate there, I had the Shrimp Ravioli with the Vodka Cream Sauce - YUM! My brother had the Shrimp in Alfredo Sauce, and he wiped the bowl clean.
Our second visit, I had the Fish and Chips with the curly fries as a side. The cod was delicately battered and served with tartar sauce, and the curly fries were light and crispy. This time my brother had the Shrimp Ravioli with the Vodka Cream Sauce. Again, his plate was cleaned.
Portions are generous and the food was very good. I was so pleased to find a restaurant like Henry's Double K during my visit.

We were here on business and we were two tables of women and there were two drunks holding the bar up. It's definitely a bar. You get the picture? The drunks were fighting over who knows what so we were all very uncomfortable. There is nothing open downtown on Monday night in Mt. Carroll. The taxidermy on the walls is interesting. They only take cash "but there's a teller machine you can use". Run, run fast in the opposite direction if you happen to be starving and in Mt. Carroll on a Monday. This is a dump!

The service here is very, very slow - order at the drive-thru and pull up to window and park if you ordered anything more than a cone or a coke. The inside has been remodeled, thank goodness there is a useable bathroom, but littered and tables that are not clean. This place has great ice cream, that's why people come here every day, and put up with slow service. But the management and staff need a whole retraining program.
