Restaurant decor is to a good standard. The view over the lake is pleasant. Neither is exceptional. The cuisine meets fine dining standards, but is matched by many other establishments without the Michelin star premium.
Service is of the severely formal type, thus creating a sterile ambience. Our sommelier became fixated with two lady diners, and lost sight of service issues in the room.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday you must reserve your lunch or dinner by phone.
While traveling between Lisbon and Madrid we decided tinha-me lunch around Montemor, and went to a ribeira based on a gastronomic guide recommendation.
And what a very nice surprise that was.
The restaurant is located next to vineyards and a river with a modest exterior. When you get in you immediately understand that you are going to eat very well and that you are going to have fun!! The owner sings the menu. For us it was a rap!!! Fabulous!! The food was great. We ate fried squid and a steak for the kids. The owner and the staff are quite friendly and put you comfortable to customize your dish to your preferences(salad, only tomato, French fries or boiled potatoes, etc).
If you have the chance, don't miss it. Book in advance. I was lucky because when i got there there was a single 4-seat table available.

During a weekend trip to Montemor-o-Novo we realized some other friends would also be there. One of them knew this restaurant and we made plans for dinner. What we didnt know was that our friend knew the owners, Céu and José. Upon arrival I was felt at home. My grand-parents were from Alentejo and this restaurant has the atmosphere and even the smell of a typical Alentejo home. We had the pleasure of being joined for dinner by Céu and José, the nicest people. But the food, oh the food!!!! We had torresmos and cheese and paio and olives and Gaspacho as starters. The Gaspacho has apples, I had two dishes!!! Then, for main courses, Frutos Secos de Cação (the most delicious soup) and Migas com Carne de Alguidar. We felt like we'd have to roll out of there but apparently the chocolate mousse is a speciality and for those like me who don't like chocolate, the Amêndoa and Mel cake will take you to heaven. We're seriously considering on making it a monthly trip to this restaurant less than an our away from Lisbon

The dinner was good and plenty at reasonable prices. The restaurant serves local food in many variations. The meat was tasty. Staff is friendly and speaks enough English; the menu comes in two languages. We liked the place and would recommend it to everyone who looks for a local restaurant. The restaurant is not easy to find at night, it is in a small side street.

We had lunch a Saturday in April. Very friendly welcome. We had made a reservation and got a nice table to the front side of the small restaurant. The starters: some bread without butter, a small plate of a dozen olives, a sliced cheese and some small snippets of ham. Not very original, but served in a very small quantity for two adult persons. It was by very far too little for making us wait for the main course, which finally took one entire hour to be served on cold plates. We had chosen their special plate of the house: Porco preto with mushrooms and shrimps. The meat was fine, but only lukewarm. The mushrooms were not freshly made, but came from a can. The undefined, tarragon based sauce was some ready made commercial stuff and did not go with anything in the plate, in particular not with the three shrimps placed on the top. The French fries were cold and had been prepared quite a long time before being served. The mixed salad was small and composed of lettuce, but very few tomatoes.
For local standards, the quantities were very small. Even the red wine “da casa” was served in tiny mini-carafes for just one glass and wasn’t anything special either.
Given the all those reviews full of praise, we must have come a really very bad day with the Chef on leave. Quite disappointed, we left without desert or coffee. Nevertheless, the bill was near 35 euros, for which we would have got a by far much better return in the other restaurants in Montemor.

This restaurant was a pleasant surprise. The food was excellent, the wine was magnificent but I think what really made the night was the fantastic customer service provided by Joao. Joao's ability to "read" customers is outstanding, he excelled by the authenticity, attentiveness and calming...MoreThanks for prefer this restaurant.... See you soon
