Where to Eat in Marfa: The Best Restaurants and Bars

April 14, 2018 Nicolette Lion

Marfa is a city in the high desert of the Trans-Pecos in far West Texas, located between the Davis Mountains and Big Bend National Park. It is the county seat of Presidio County, and its population as of the 2010 United States Census was 1,981. The city was founded in the early 1880s as a water stop; the population increased during World War II, but the growth stalled and reversed somewhat during the late 20th century. Today, Marfa is a tourist destination and a major center for Minimalist art. Attractions include Building 98, the Chinati Foundation, artisan shops, historical architecture, a classic Texas town square, modern art installments, art galleries, and the Marfa lights.

FOOD SHARK serves up Mediterranean-by-way-of-West-Texas food Wednesday through Saturday from 12 - 3:00. Please note - We only answer the telephone during business hours, no voicemail for catering or anything else. Having spent time in Marfa, and hearing how great the food was at Food Shark, we decided to take the time (and we planned for it). 45 min wait. The food was not great, the presentation was not great nor did the flavors balance.

I love their iced coffee. They have a few snacks, and an ice cream bar.

They also own the coin-operated laundry next door, so easy for out-of-town'ers to do laundry, enjoy a coffee beverage, ice cream, free wi-fi and even have a board game. They also welcome 4-legged friends on the patio, and have water set out for them.

I love Marfa and the way people seem to have an idea and make it happen.
That seems to be what happened here. Someone wanted a craft brew coffee shop in the back of what seems to be a scrap yard and they just made it happen. And on top of that, of course you can find local art & many of the artists getting ready to "do their thing" too.
Oh, and the coffee is great!

Nice, upbeat feel. Ordered the Mexican tortilla appetizer, then mixed greens and beef stew. Excellent flavor combinations all around. They ran out of two of the three desserts, but the pistachio raspberry cake was great, too.

Located 4 doors west of the only red light intersection in Marfa . Look for the courtyard with trees lit up in the patio. Across from Roy's automotive.

We are driving across the country this month We drove into Marfa with very little information. We stayed in a beautiful renovated hotel, attended Saturday Mass at the sweetest little church and then walking back to our hotel we spotted this restaurant. This is a small house renovated into a beautiful space for dining. I wanted to photograph every part! The waitress who seated us appeared to be happy to be there. Her service was great. We ordered schnitzel dinners and drank local beers. Dinner was delicious! We split an slice of eggnog cake?? It was our only mistake. Of course we ate it but it didn’t taste like eggnog and it was expensive!! Marfa is a great spot!

Marfa Burrito

So even Matthew McConaughey swears by Ramona's burritos (there are pictures of other celebs who had their photo taken with Ramona on trips to Marfa on the walls as well), so I thought I had to try it out on my third trip to Marfa earlier this year. And it didn't disappoint. Ramona's tortillas are AMAZING. And the burritos she cooks up (in what used to be her home) are simple and delicious. Homemade salsas round out the great meal (we had breakfast). Worth a visit the next time you're exploring Marfa! (A place tourists love but where you're also see locals!)

Planet Marfa

We had no idea what to expect as in most places in Marfa. What we walked into was not only friendly service but many different experiences. We sat in the teepee that's partially underground, on the mini-terrace above the bar and in the old school bus. There are twinkle lights everywhere and even a dance floor if you feel like cutting a rug. The music can be a bit loud but if you're used to going to bars it's the norm. This is all outside and even includes ping pong in the back room. It's the perfect place to bring a small group since there are lots of hidden corners and semi-private places to have a conversation and not be distracted by the music or people.

Jett's Grill

Reviewed By Greg B - Santa Fe, New Mexico

The food and service here are very disappointing. For breakfast Jett’s offers a casual self-service breakfast burrito buffet. Although there is a choice of three varieties of burrito, the burritos are mostly scrambled egg and little bacon or chilies.
Our dinner was equally disappointing. The dining room is very stark is begin with. We were seated in the back in a dimly lit annex room. The service was extremely slow and our dishes of lemon linguine and the Giant Burger were pretty basic and overly expensive. It seems like the restaurant staff just don’t care about their food or the dining experience.

Hand tossed pizza with fresh ingredients . Pizza is made to order so can take a long time. We make the dough the day before, as much that will fill our refrigeration. When it runs out, we are done. 128 pieces of dough. Please call in advance to order and we will call you back when ready, or to get you in the restaurant to find seating. Have wine and beer available as well.

My wife and I really enjoyed the pizza here. Everyone was very friendly and the pizza was very good. It is a more thin crust type pizza. We had Italian sausage and sliced mozzarella that was excellent....I recommend eating here. Good pizza and friendly people.
