Maratea is a town and comune of Basilicata, in the province of Potenza. It is the only comune of the region on the Tyrrhenian coast and because of its beautiful scenery and coastline it has been called "the Pearl of the Tyrrhenian". Owing to the considerable number of its churches and chapels it has also been described as "the town with 44 churches".

Visited on recommendation of TripAdvisor, enjoyed it thoroughly. House wine 8E, food from the same price range. Had a prawn and calamari fried dish, 15E, as well as a whole sea bass 13E. Side dishes xtra. Fresh and good! View would be fantastic in the day time. We can recommend this restaurant and it's no surprise that it's rated second in the area.

An amazing place in lovely location . Cannot understand the few negative reviews of this great restaurant! Everything was perfect! Antonio a great host and passionate about his 'slow food' and gave good recommendations for each course. The antipasti, pasta , cheese , dessert -all excellent . Local wine great too. All in all a fine experience and highly recommended .

Elegantly presented sea food, in a superb location that allows you to watch the sun set from the Terrace. The staff are courteous & supply additional items such as an aperitif while you consider your menu options. While the prices are not outrageous, it is not the cheapest night out & would be perfect for a special occasion.

Visited the picturesque Maratea Porto, hot sunny day, and were delighted we chose to go here!
Friendly service, the food so fresh and reflective of this area, and the views brilliant! Fisherman fixing nets, quaint little boats.
This place is small which adds to the personal family tone, The seared tuna with onion cinnamon jam so fresh, and my seafood salad (mussels, clams, prawns and octopus) you could swear had come straight from the sea within that hour! One of best seafood dishes ever had on this 7 week trip.
Presentation excellent and VERY GENEROUS portions.
The complimentary pane di Maratea with tomato and thyme succulent.
SO wonderful to be sitting there, service, food, view ++++++++,and so peaceful.
With drinks and this superb food only 36Euros!

Very pleasant lunch. Fresh sea food anti-pasta starter and my young daughters had a seafood Linguine with mussels, prawns, clams and calamari. We had the mixed seafood platter for second course with anchovies, prawns, calamari and fried fish. House wine was very drinkable and reasonably priced.

Very pleasant white tablecloth restaurant in a gorgeous boutique hotel. The luncheon menu was limited but very good. This is the best place in Maratea by far. Don't miss it if in the area.

We visited Pizzeria El Sol on a Sunday night, off season, with only one person serving and cooking, so this review is subject to that context! We ordered pizzas only, the bases were very good but the toppings were very average, in a country that produces such delicious tomatoes, ham, cheese and vegetables, to use mass produced supermarket ingredients is a shame. The pizzas tasted OK, but we have had better elsewhere in Italy...whether these are the best in Maratea as suggested, I cannot confirm but I would be surprised. The desserts were also a little disappointng, partly becuase many werent available. We ordered fig tart, ok but overly sweet, ot helped by the very sweet cherry sauce on top, and tartufo (advertsed on the menu as from Pizzo, but sadly a Carte D'Or, Unilever product). Atmosphere is garish and with the TV on, not sopleasant. service was friendly. I would not return before trying the many other pizzerias in the area.

We arrived in Maratea exhausted by the demands of the coastal road and confused by the town itself. We were a bit too late for the market and things were closing up. We headed down the road and were glad to turn in here.
We were the only customers so things were quiet. Prices were reasonable, yet the food was excellent! The ravioli were good, with luscious hunks of soft mozzarella and bits of eggplant. The fried fish was perfectly done.
We left refreshed and very well fed!
Note the actual address is Via Ondavo, 11 (not 10!)

Had a very good lunch at this gourmet-like seafood restaurant. The place was very busy also due to a celebration that was taking place, so we didn't have the maximum of attention by the staff, but was ok. Excellent seafood menu, great starters, good past and good second plate. Some dishes are marked as signature dishes on the menu. We paid 70€ and were overall satisfied.

Il Sacello restaurant in city centre of Maratea. Homemade dishes from culinary tradition of Basilicata region, wonderful garden for outdoor dining, wine cellar, lunch from 12:30 to 14:30, dinner from 19:30 to 22:30.
It was a beautiful weekend on the Basilicata and Calabria coasts that finished beautifully with an elegant romantic dinner at Il Sacello restaurant of the La Locanda delle Monache hotel in Maratea.
We read all the Tripadvisor reviews and not only before actually choosing this place, but we were very satisfied we did so 'cause it was the right choice!
Il Sacello occupies a spectacular veranda with the view over the Maratea roofs, a swimming pool, a jacuzzi and a charming garden at the feet of the Medieval cluster with its characteristic bell tower.
Simply beautiful and elegant!
The service is impeccable and gracious: our waiter seemed a person we knew for a long time, to be trusted and paid attention to. He gave us precious advice on what wine to choose to accompany the dishes we opted for. He didn't forget about us for the whole everything being very attentive and discreet all the same time.
The food was genuine boasting authentic flavour of the South served with charm and imagination.
We've already suggested Il Sacello to our family and now - to you, it's really worth trying once in Maratea.
