Superb cafe located right in the heart of the main street in Maldon, a busy tourist town in Central Victorias Goldfields Region. Cafe Maldon has a reputation for great food and coffee.
Arrived in Maldon around lunchtime and we, two mature couples, decided to give Cafe Maldon a try. We were not disappointed; the service was quick, pleasant & efficient. Although all four of us choose something different to eat we were all delighted with our choices. The coffee was also very good. I have no hesitation in recommending Cafe Maldon.

The Kangaroo opened its doors in 1856. Starting with a tent, later a timber building was moved here from nearby Fryerstown and a brick structure was erected in the late 1800's. It was a different way of life during the early gold rush days in which there were about 40 pubs in the Maldon area and The Kangaroo has stood the test of time.

The Kangaroo also operated as the town morgue, a butcher shop, doctor's office, theatre and Cobb and Co. changing station, with the coach leaving daily at “half past 8pm” for Melbourne and 4 am for local towns such as Dunolly, Ararat and Maryborough.

Still below the building is a series of tunnels that were used during the gold rush days to discretely & securely move gold from the Bank onto the coach for transport to Melbourne. Another tunnel was used to take the bodies from the morgue (lounge area) to the Uundertakers across the road. Rumour has it there is a third tunnel used by many men to visit the ladies of the night… We have been serving the community of Maldon for over 150 years. We pride ourselves on continuing the tradition.

Affectionately known as 'The Roo', a friendly place where local folk gather. The menu is based on local produce, including wines and meats from Maldon and surrounding goldfields. The area is known for big shiraz and an abundance of Roo.
Nice country pub atmosphere. Wood fire and live music in main lounge. Ate dinner in the dining room. Booked a table as it was a busy Saturday night. Friendly staff. Long wait for meals. Decent steak dinner served with chips and salad or vegetables. Veges crunchy. Selection of sauces (mushroom sauce was a bit gluggy and salty). Standard pub food. Place to visit for a night out in historical Maldon.

This fine old Victorian building with a spacious dinning area offers a good choice menu with a wide range of meals. We, two mature couples, choose different meals and we were all more than satisfied with our choices. There is a varied selection of wines and beers, but we choose to drink Carlton draught with which we were well satisfied. The Maldon Hotel is a good place to eat.

First time in Maldon we popped in here for a quick Sunday lunch. My husband and I both ordered a coffee and Sandwich each. Very long wait. Our coffees finally arrived, they were very weak. Our food finally arrived, the fillings were ok but very unappealing just plonked on a plate with no effort made. I hate it when I realise I've spent 28 bucks and could have made it way better at home.

Lovely place, fresh, tasty food. Excellent value for money and the service was extremely good. The coffee was lovely, I would highly recommended this place for lunch. I Haven't t been for dinner, but would be fairly certain it would be just as good.

There is nothing forumla about this cafe. Compared to others in the region Mrs Pritchards stands out for its menu selections, and support for local wines and foods. We have been a number of times, and the menu changes frequently. Food is always of exceptional standard, and the wine list is short but very well matched to the menu of the day. Once you get through a meal, the pastries, cakes, and coffee selection is wonderful, and a must have. Service is relaxed, efficient and friendly with the owner operators always on hand for a chat or to make a suggestion - lovely day I hope to repeat often when in Maldon

It was an unfortunate experience visiting here for breakfast as we loved the little town of Maldon and had many choices for a scrumptious breakfast but obviously just chose the wrong venue. The coffee and service was fine - nothing out of the extraordinary - but both our full breakfasts were almost inedible. My partner chose to not eat anything past the egg and being a bacon lover I took the risk and tried a piece of my grey, tired and off pork. So too were the mushrooms used and forget presentation or respect for anything else on the plate - we stacked them up in disgust and left. Whoever is running the kitchen here needs a good kick up the backside for serving up produce that is nowhere from fresh, and being in the hospitality industry we are certainly not recommending this spot to anyone.

I was very surprised to discover this cool little gem in Castlemaine.
I only had a coffee n cake so can't really judge the menu.
Service was a little unattentive and inconsistent (one waitress offered cream to take away with a cake to another customer but mine did not).
Would like to come back for lunch or a fabulous cocktail evening.

This place was recommended by our camp site and it certainly lived up to its billing! Our only disappointment was that they'd run out of snapper and barramundi because they'd been so popular. Our campsite had obviously sent too many people there!!
Nonetheless, we really enjoyed our meals. I had the falafel meal, which was very tasty. My friend had the flake (fish), which came with an enormous pile of chips. Another friend had pizza.
The owners were very friendly, and went out of their way to ensure we had all we wanted.
There are two places to sit and eat your meal - some tables out the front, on the pavement, and also a shaded area to the side.
Excellent value too. Highly recommended.
