I love having lunches here. It's nice to have lunch at the balcony overlooking the waterfront.
The fish and chips is superb on a hot day with a cool drink right in front of the beach.
It's also only a walk away from the Madang CBD and its a shady walk as well.
The locality is friendly so for all looking for a great place to dine at lunch, I would go for Madang Club.
This does not exclude dinner, it would be lovely to have dinner at the same setting with the setting sun over the ocean.

Ocean Restaurant is in the same building and shares the same kitchen with the Madang Club, but Ocean is a public restaurant instead of a private club. I ate there many times from 2005 to 2007. It was always my favorite restaurant in Madang. It was also the restaurant that inspired me to make a list of my favorite restaurants in all the countries I have visited. It has remained in my top ten ever since I started the list. I recently returned after an absence of nearly ten years and found that not much has changed. Ocean still has the wonderful fan-cooled veranda overhanging Madang Harbor with views toward Nobnob mountain. It still has delicious Chinese food, as well as a few Australian standards. It still has the great-value lunch specials, including garlic chili prawns. It still holds its place at number six on my list of favorites from Oceania and four continents.

If I were rating this restaurant on atmosphere alone, it would get a 5 out of 5. It is set in the tropical Gardens of Coastwatchers Hotel. Coasties Restaurant is on the top level of a two-story building, with open sides and ceiling fans hanging from the roof. Kalibobo Point and the Pacific Ocean are right across the street. On a clear day you can see all the way across Astrolabe Bay to the Rai Coast and Finisterre Mountains. It is a comfortable, relaxing venue with a great view. For that reason, I have been there at least a dozen times beginning in 2005.
The problem is that the food and service are inconsistent. Today I had the special, which was skewered prawns dusted with a mild Cajun spice. They were excellent. I am sure the server said they came with chips, but when they arrived, they were with rice. I don't mind because the chips are nothing to brag about here any way. The problem was that it was plain rice with no sauce. That is common in the South Pacific, but I sure like it much better with sauce, even if it is just soy sauce. The salad came with a nice dressing today. Last week it was plain. My wife enjoyed her chicken Sandwich today. Last week she ordered the lamb curry. The menu said it was a coconut milk curry. When it came, there was no coconut milk in evidence. It was a decent curry if you like vindaloo, but it was a bit too hot for my wife. We are willing to put up with things like this because it is such a wonderful place to eat a meal.

Situated in the main hotel complex this restaurant is open for breakfast and lunch daily.
This is a nice high end property somewhat crumbling around the edges but with better facilities than you normally find in PNG. The grounds are very nice and the pool is wonderful and huge. The restaurant is overpriced but has nice views over the water. There are some interesting free roaming wildlife on the grounds complete with informative signs. Tree kangaroos! The staff is helpful. They have a range of rooms. You might enjoy skipping the restaurant and walking out the gate to the nearby waterfront park where you can buy a cheap hardboiled egg (safe for Western stomachs) and a Coke for a pleasant meal watching local kids try to catch fish. Staff can arrange airport transfers and drivers. As of January 2017 it is not considered safe to visit the old Japanese airfield and WWII planes but there is a good museum and a pleasant nature park south of town to visit. Tours and dives from the hotel will be tough if you are alone as they will not go for just one person.
Good hotel but pricey.
