First time visitor this far north in Maine. On our way back from Lubec we stopped at Helen’s for breakfast. It is a lovely large space, newly built after a fire destroyed the original. We found the noise level to be OK, even though it is a large space with lots of hard surfaces. Our waitress told us our assessment wasn’t shared by the locals who preferred the old restaurant. Breast was pancakes with a side of very good hash. My wife had an omelet that was just the right size. She finds the normal 3 egg omelet to be a bit overwhelming. On the morning we were there, a bonus was a farmer’s market/flea market that set up shop on Route 1 opposite the restaurant. Nice place, good food, worth a visit.

Local established cafe serving only the freshest and natural organic ingredients. Wraps, salads, daily specials, specialty foods, panini sandwiches, desserts, and espresso. Seating available for 25+. Catering and take out available.
The daily lunch options were very tasty and not the regular lunch menu options. The gluten free muffins were light and tasty. The daily soups were very good. I definitely would stop here again if I was in the area.Thank you for stopping in an visiting our café. We have improved our gluten free choices over the past year due to our customer requests. We are continually adding new G/F choices. We appreciate your feedback and look forward to your next visit.

There were celebrations in the Machias area last summer when the Riverside reopened for dinner. Rocky and Ellen are great hosts, and the food this August seemed to me to be better than ever. The sea scallops special was spectacular. Unfortunately they were understaffed (good seasonal wait staff are hard to come by in far Downeast Maine), so service was slow, but the food more than made up for it.

We gave this place another shot after a couple year hiatus following a very mediocre meal. This time the service was poor (waitress cackling with several other staff at the counter and not tending to the patrons). My drink never got refilled, we were surprised to find an adder charge on our bill for sliced Turkey breast instead of deli sliced Turkey on my club. This wouldn't have mattered but should have been mentioned. Took fifteen minutes to get our order taken after we arrived. My wife liked her pot roast and my enhanced Turkey club was pretty good but it should have been for twelve bucks.

This is a great DD! Friendly, fast service with all the great muffin, donut and sandwich selections. But this one stands out due to the fast and extra friendly service. And they have a drive-thru as well. :-)

Relaxing atmosphere. The Captains Platter was superb. Very fresh seafood. Very good french fries. Friendly service.

You just gotta love Riverside Takeout. The seafood is fresh and local, breaded and made to order, and served hot with any condiment your little heart may desire. It's a perennial fav, and locals know it as some of the best food around.

I walked in and ordered a pie for take-out. It took nearly 5 minutes to place the order as the workers walked past and one even took a phone call before even noting that she saw me. Pizza was good, although a bit small for the price. I was told it would take 15 minutes, I returned in 20 and was told they were putting it in the oven. Luckily I was not in a rush...

It's a surprise to walk into a "convenience store" and get such good food. Not fancy but hearty. Love 'em.

Yum - is the word that comes to mind. If you want some real homemade German style eats - well look no further.
We spotted this place while passing through to Canada. So very glad we did.
The food was excellent and reasonable in price. Best of all its all freshly made and a great meal to boot!
We will be going back next time we are up that way for sure!
