Recommended by our hotel it was an easy walk. Goulash was great. Really great. Green salad ok. Veal Wiener schnitzel was tender and flavorful. Potatoes were good but a little heavy on the garlic for my taste. Two guys near us got the House Wurst and it looked really good. Service was fine, English menus and staff we had spoke enough english for us to get along fine. We would go again.

Having checked out on Trip Advisor, we visited this restaurant with great confidence. It wasn't busy but we were shown through two half empty areas in a totally empty small room next to the toilets. We were then left for what seemed like ages, hearing get only the sounds of happy clients in the adjoining rooms. Eventually we were approached to order, which we did. I've never ordered steak without being asked how I wanted it cooked, until today. We then we're waiting in our silent little room, disturbed only by other clients visiting the "facilities". Eventually my husbands starter arrived - no sign of drinks for a further 10 minutes .. and then in an amazing flourish of activities, our drinks arrived, he finished his starters and our main courses were delivered. Interestingly my steak was cooked to my taste - am I that transparent? I still don't understand why we were put in the separate room but it left us feeling uncomfortable. So in summary, the food was good but I felt a bit like an uninvited guest at a wedding. Were I to be looking to eat in Lienz again, I would not eat here.

We live in Austria, so sitting for an Austrian meal (even food as great as Tirolean cooking) isn't always high on our list. On this evening we found ourselves here, and it was really and truly, way-above-average pizza.
Our evening began with prosciutto and melon, the perfect salty and sweet antipasti. The presentation (and flavors) did not disappoint. I ordered the pizza with Buffalo mozzarella; thin-crust, perfectly crispy, and with the right proportion of sweet roasted cherry tomatoes and cheese. My husband ordered Pizza Diavolo; the sausage was spicy, something not always found across the country. He pronounced his pizza, "delicious." With dinner we shared a bottle of Pinot Grigio, a light and appropriate summer accompaniment.
Overall, we departed the restaurant rather happy with our decision to dine here; and judging by the numerous "to-go" pizza boxes streaming from the kitchen, others find the food to be top-rate, as well.

Good food, good beer, and a decent attached hotel.
The only suggestion would be to partition off the smoking and non-smoking sections a bit better. The bar looked like a nice place to have a beer, but it's been two decades since I've wandered into a bar that smokey!

The City Cafe Glanzl in Lienz is located directly on the main square and is the perfect place for people watching in summer - to see and to be seen! Large outside Seating area in summer. Inside has cosy and traditional styling. Basic food menus with snacks and salads. The City Cafe is a place to go and drink a coffee and eat an excellent cake! We offer great selfemade ice creams too! Our service is always good and food and drinks turn up quickly, even when it's busy. Large selection of cakes, sweets and chocolates to take-away - perfect for gifts. Does get busy and finding a table is sometimes a challenge but a short wait is well worth it. Also a great spot for viewing many of the free Concerts taking place in the summer! A trip to Lienz should definitely include a visit to City Cafe. We are looking forward to seeing you!
On a sunny August afternoon, we stopped at Glanzl for the traditional Kaffee und Kuchen. Their Terrace on the Hauptplatz is a pleasant place to spend some time enjoying their very good pastries. They offer quite a choice of pastries and ice creams.

We visited based on the reviews and checked the menu on their website first. Not all options were available on the night (they do have an English menu available in the restaurant) but there was still a good selection. I went for the boiled beef and my wife had the ravioli. All cooked perfectly, but just lacking a little something to score 5. Service was very good too.
