Old Town Restaurant

Reviewed By briangmiller - Marquette, Michigan

We tried this restaurant when visiting my daughter and son-in-law and were not disappointed. The decor has warm and inviting Eastern European ambience with an abundance of beautiful wood work including a unique ceiling design. We had the Polish and Lithuanian platters and they were excellent. The food was hearty and delicious with a homemade flavor, generous portions, and a nice variety of items on the platters. I also tried the tripe soup and it was absolutely delicious, truly one of the best soups I've ever tasted in a restaurant. Other members of our party had the goulash soup and enjoyed it. I sampled it as well and it was very good but the tripe soup was even better. I'm not a big bread lover but the bread they served before the meal was very good. Service couldn't be faulted. Our server was prompt, friendly, cheerful, accurate, and really seemed to enjoy his work. Prices were reasonable and parking was right out front. All in all, it was a most pleasant and enjoyable dining experience. When we visit the area again, we will most definitely return to this restaurant. I'm interested in trying the German platter and some of the other ethnic dishes as well. Wish we had a place like this back home.

This particular one seems to often have unenthusiastic servers behind the counter. But who knows. Maybe they've been up since 3 a.m. "I've got to make the donuts." Nice range of sandwiches & beverages to go with all those donutty goodies.

Muffin's Ice Cream Shoppe

Reviewed By Matt H - Salt Lake City, Utah

We were passing through town to see a friend while on vacation, so we jumped out and grabbed some ice cream. It's a well kept "Shoppe" and the employees were friendly and helpful. The ice cream was no better nor worse than the typical flavors and tastes that you might expect to find. We thought their selection was on the plain side and a bit pricey for what we received.

Rustic Knead

Reviewed By PlainTraveler - Palos Park, Illinois

Well my friend and I are trying not to eat a lot of bread, but needless to say we found ourselves at Rustic Knead.

I suggest you save your seat before you get in line because you may not get a seat if they're busy. When you go up to order there are large menus on the wall but not at the tables. So here's our scenario: We bypass the delicious looking pastries and head to the sandwich area and they have a delicious looking roast beef sandwich on whole wheat bread that has a lot of seeds on it on display. That's a very good selling point because that's exactly what I ordered. I like the fact that it had some vegetables on it and some horseradish sauce and onions. There were three kinds of soup and I saw that they had called gazpacho soup which I haven't had in a long time so I definitely ordered that. My soup and sandwich came to around $13.00.

My friend ordered the same sandwich but she substituted a different cheese. She ordered the cabbage white bean potato soup which came hot but she really didn't like it. She thought it was too watery tasting.

We both enjoyed our sandwiches and thought the bread was nice and hard on the outside but easy to chew and we enjoyed everything on our sandwiches. I thought the chilled gazpacho soup was fabulous.

I decided to go back for what I thought was a scone so that we could split it and I would get a cup of coffee. What I thought was a scone was really a peach turnover so I decided to get a pastry with cream cheese and Michigan blueberries on the top. I asked them if they would cut it in half and they said they couldn't but they could give me a knife. Sidebar: I wish our sandwiches were cut in half because they were a little bit messy. We were not given a knife to use when eating our sandwich.

Another suggestion: it would've been nice if there were a little menu somewhere on the table so if you're sitting there eating your sandwich and you decide you want to maybe get a dessert or something it might be listed there so you know what the coffee cost and other stuff like that.

We definitely will return soon one when in the Lemont area.

Anyone that comes near Lemont should frequent Nick's Tavern and order one of their monster, 1lb cheeseburgers! It is awesome! Place looks like it's 150 years old and as charming as can be. I've had guests stay in my place 4 blocks from Nick's and I always manage to bring them there for the experience. Every time I've brought someone there, they fall in love with it.

Turnabout is a carryout pizza and beef restaurant. Their pizza sauce and Crust are the best! yes it's on the sweet side but that makes it so special. The beef and beef n sausage sandwiches are hearty and satisfying to even for the big bite appetites~Get some extra red sauce too! great for dipping!
They even have a gluten free pizza for those who need it.
When our out of town family comes in, Turnabout is # 1 on their list to get and devour and enjoy! Don't be turned off by the building, ok- it's been here so many years and hopefully will be here for many to come! Family recipes have stayed the same thru the years~ THANK You Turnabout!

I've been here several times over the past three or four months and enjoy the wide beer selection. The food is very good and high quality bar cuisine. Gelsosomo's Pizzeria and Pub

Reviewed By Scott R - Downers Grove, Illinois

I like Gel's cheese and sausage pizza. You have to get it fresh though. You can grab a slice here on lunch but it can be hit or miss. I checked out the lunch buffet one time and it consisted of one pizza and one type of soup, so I took a slice of cheese and a slice of sausage to go. The sausage was awesome but the cheese was less than desirable.
