This restaurant is in the Barca de Oro Hotel in Las Peñitas, Nicaragua. I wanted to leave a review about it and not the hotel because I did not stay in the hotel.
We loved the fresh juice and Nica breakfast. My husband really loves their pancakes. He got them last year when we visited, and he raved about them for a full year. He was so excited that they were just as he remembered them when we returned this year.
Plus, the service is great.

Dulce Mareas ('Sweet Tides') is a unique dining experience in Las Penitas. We offer real Italian style pizza, fresh smoked fish, nachos and other items. Dulce Mareas also has the only espresso machine in Las Penitas, offering a full range of espresso based beverages, using quality Nicaraguan organic coffee beans. The restaraunt is a 'Rancho' style building with thatch roof, good ventilation and beautiful lighting and ambience. There is an excellent sound system and large screen projection, providing movies, music, and sports events. We pride ourselves in offering a pleasant dining experience unlike anything else in the area.Private space available for parties up to twelve persons. As a general rule, smoking is not permitted in the restaurant. There is a covered patio area in the front.Bookings available for special events.
I wasn't necessarily keen to eat Italian food while traveling around Nicaragua, but a lot of people have been saying good things about this restaurant and I finally decided to give it a shot.
Don't expect an Italian-style pizzeria, as this is definitely a laid-back Nicaraguan-style beach establishment. The vibe is cool and relaxed.
A small Greek salad, a small pepperoni pizza, and a beer set me back about 10 Canadian dollars, which isn't that bad. The food was good, no doubt about it, but the service a bit so-so.
I had to get up and go order at the bar, even though there were only 3 other clients in the restaurant when I showed up.
Although other places offer better value, Dulce Mareas remains the restaurant to visit if you're in the mood for a tasty pizza.
Would go back.

We had several people in town tell us the burgers here were amazing. We went in and had a few beers and burgers. The burgers were NOT good at all. Mushy for some reason. Really odd. The owner was great, the beers were cold, but skip the burgers.

I don't know why there are so many tourists here but this place is definitely over priced. I only got a smoothie and cost a totsly of 60Cords...way more than a regular smoothie would have cost and it didn't taste that much better. Don't go here just for the convenience of it...might as well explore your options and try other things

I was GRANDPAcking in Las Penitas for 6 nights.
The locals recommended Comedor Bertha for a seafood meal.
We turned up and had a lobster meal each.
Mine was done in garlic butter.
My son's was grilled.
We each got 3 medium sized lobsters. It was a big meal.
We paid N$330 each.

Ate here a few times as its a cross from our hotel. The owner was really nice and the staff were attentive. They have wifi and make great limonada mexicana. The fried shrimp (camarone empanizida) were my favorite. I didn't like the fish tacos however as they had a lot of fish bones in them. All in all a nice spot for a meal and the coldest beers we have had !

thanks everybody, it was a wonderfull 1st season and it was a great succes ! We will reopen soon with the same great food and also with some improvements. thanks again to everybody who helped making MONO LOCO a success and see you all soon.
Cozy space, open and inviting atmosphere, good staff and very knowledgeable and friendly manager. Their food is all fresh and they sometimes get specials in like some delicious oysters or you can have your burger made just the way you like it (no, for real!) and it may take a few minutes if it's busy but it's worth the way. Whether you get fries, with gravy, or as pouting - those are some fine tomatoes! The restaurant is very involved in the community, they sell very stylish, colourful, and very affordable (and cute too, did I say cute?) shirts, tanks, and tops to raise money for charity. I shouldn't even say charity. It's really quite interesting they put the money right back into the community, right now it's a skate park for the kids to keep them off the roads. Delicious food, cold drinks, inviting patron, and shopping too? You don't want to miss this little cozy hut of wonder - and at nighttime you probably won't, it's the one all lit up with icicle lights would all around it!

My boyfriend and I met some friends who were staying in the one room of this restaurant...A real catch! Such a reasonable price...the room is really big...it has a single bed, double bed, private bathroom and a private kitchen!
We ate at the restaurant and the food is absolutely amazing! In addition to all this, we went back to try the watermelon mojitos...To our delightful surprise it was a 2 for 1 for 60 cordobas!! Amazing! And the mojitos were unbelievable!!
This is an must go to restaurant in Los Peñitas!

International "tapas", grilled specialities, cocktails, smoothies and home made bakery
Given the reviews this place garnered, there was no way I was going to miss out on trying it during my stay in Las Penitas.
The décor is cute and the beachfront location is great. But would the food pass the test?
With resounding colors, yes! I had two pork skewers (Spanish-style and Nica-style), with vegetables, chips, a bowl of rice, and a beer. With the tip included, it cost me less than 10$! This is awesome value given that the food was delicious!
The staff doesn't speak much English, but there is an English menu. So it's all good.
A "must" for anyone spending time around Las Penitas!

We ordered fried fish and a shrimp dish. Our meals came over 30 minutes apart! I had literally finished eating and had my plate cleared before my husband was even served. The price was similar to what we paid elsewhere for less food. I understood the 2.5 hours to eat, it was Nicaragua and they were having a family party.....but having our food served so far apart? Plus my 8 shrimp were horrid rubberballs in a sea of nasty garlic mayonnaise.....and the picture showed grilled shrimp?! Also, you don't get napkins...at all. Anyway, we went here based on a recommendation. We actually really enjoyed drinking our beers and watching the locals play in the water and the tide come in but an expensive somewhat nasty expensive meal. Go for beers and colour - pass on the food.
