I can understand the food being ok, but...golly, a tossed salad (lettuce tomato and two pickles) for $3.95, small guacamole for $4.95 and a small Chile con queso for $6.95 is a bit toooo much. I have had better salads, guacamole and Chile con queso for less. I guess that is why when they tried here in Harlingen, it didn't make it. I will NOT be going back!!!

I've tried several pizza places and I can say this is my go-to when family visit. The pizza is so delicious and very reasonable prices. Normally I carry out but they do have plenty of tables for dining in.

Great customer service, family run business. Great Italian food. The desserts are huge, homemade and delicious. The tiramisu is the best!

Swung into here after seeing Whataburger on John Hein's fast food show and not having them back home I was curious. It was very good. Fast food, but still good. I had a burger and fries and they were great. Service was fast and friendly. They brought it out to my table like they do at Hardees. Burger was very similar to Burger Time for those of you who have been around the Daktoas and MN.

Always good food and a great value. Friendly staff and a nice shop on the way home from work. Clean and efficient. I'm a sucker for the tacos!

Good and busy place to get a cold drink in the middle of the hot Texan summer, at Mercedes outlets. Service is nice. The place is reasonably clean for a very busy cafe...

If you have any doubts as to weather or not you should visit The Smoking Oak, get rid of them and go now. I'm from central Texas so I've had some of the best BBQ around, Blacks, Snows, etc and can say that this was some of the best I've ever had. Not really cheap eats but the food is worth every penny and they do have deals. The sauce is great, brisket amazing and the sausage was meaty without any grease, nothing low grade here. The creamed corn, beans and potato salad were all equally amazing. Service was friendly and excellent, someone even stopped by to ask how the food was and later to refill my tea. Folks, this is one of the best restaurants in Texas, you owe it to yourself to try it .

Sadly, not the same as Palmetto Inn.
I had my first Mexican plate at Palmetto Inn probably in 1966. Was a regular there until we left the Valley in '84. We continued to eat at the South Padre location during our beach vacations until they closed down
For quite some time now, I've read about how this outfit's food is "just like Palmetto Inn's."
Not even close. Only the tortilla chips, salsa and taco shells are the same. The taco meat is not the same at all. Palmetto Inn's taco meat was rich and gravy-based. What I just sampled was run-of-the-mill, semi-dry average taco meat.
But the major blow to my expectations were the cheese enchiladas. Palmetto Inn had the world's finest (sorry Julio) meaty enchilada gravy (they also had a red chile-based, 'Mexican-style' sauce). I drove 350 miles to experience the meaty gravy. The enchilada gravy here was very good (for plain-Jane sauce), but not in the same league as the delicious Palmetto Inn stuff.
I ordered guacamole too. It was bland and needed salt and garlic. It did not come with chips. What? Yeah. The server said a second basket of chips would cost me $2.25. I expected to get chips with guacamole.
Had a side of chopped onion. The very small portion was chopped too finely and was not all that fresh.
There was barely any ice in my iced tea.
Good service.
My overall disappointment was urging me to rate this place only 2 stars, but the chips, salsa, rice and beans pushed it to 3, barely. And then there was the extra charge for chips, and I settled on 2.
Can't wait to eat at Las Vegas Cafe tomorrow.

We visit some friends in the Valley from time to time and we always love to come to Don Beto's in La Feria (there are a couple by the same name I believe). Here you'll find an efficient wait staff, great and hot breakfast items- can't get past the breakfast tacos. Wow are they good. I guess the variety and the speed with which the breakfast is delivered helps make the time you spend with friends work out. A great breakfast and then off to other places. Always busy, but we've never had to wait. Impressive!

I have ate a lot of pizza in my life, and I have loved most everyone. Formazio Pizza tops all of the rest. While, the toppings, the baking, the people, the enthusiasm, the cleanliness, the promise of when it will be ready, the owner and his staff, top all of the rest. I never ate another pizza in the Rio Grande Valley then this one, and I would get mad at myself if I missed a week without having one.
At $8.00 for the best large deluxe pizza you ever ate, this is the best bargain and best pizza in the RGV. We love Mercedes.
We are now back in Ontario, and baking our own frozen pizza, longing for our Formazio.
