We are not a fan of Squid Sashimi so we opted for the Squid Siew Mai instead, it was interesting and the texture was soft and tastey but just like any good dim sum.
The fish Sashimi was rather disappointing as the fish texture was quite stiff and we wonder whether the fish has been served too fresh too early and not aged?

I had a fabulous lunch in this preatty restaurant: the location is very cool, and the food is fantastic! I eat alive squid for the first time in my life and I was very impressed; all the lunch was very amazing. I suggest to everybody to try this unique experience!

When I went to Yobuko, There is no choice because we have to eat a cuttlefish.
The cuttlefish here is delicious. I think that this is more delicious than a cuttlefish in Hakodate. Because it seems hard to get here without driving car, it is Honorable for a drinker. Japanese sake in Saga is the best.

We enjoyed the breakfast buffet here. Although the dining room was very busy with the holiday crowd, the staff were efficient and friendly. Nice view of the sea and beach.

There aren't many reviews of restaurants in Karatsu, so I thought I should share our experience at Takeya. This is a wonderful chance to experience Kyushu warmth and hospitality. This restaurant serves eel, but if you are not a fan of unagi-you should know that it is a wonderful, mild-flavored fish. It is an oily fish loaded with healthful Omega 3. There are no bones to deal with. Traditionally, unagi is grilled with a sauce made of soy, sake, and a few other ingredients. Takeya is located in the downtown area. It is a convenient walk from the station. The restaurant is located in a beautiful, old Taisho-era house. It is worth going to just to experience the atmosphere. We were intrigued to see that it was retro-fitted for electricity with knob and tube wiring--people in Kyoto take classes to add this bit of authenticity to remodeled townhouses. The set dinners vary between 2,620 yen and 4,470 yen. We orded the cheapest "teishoku" or set dinner. They do not speak English in this restaurant, but don't worry about feeling awkward. They are delightful hosts. Just point to the set dinner at the top of the menu that fits your budget. In addition to the set dinners, they have donburi-eel over rice. Our teishoku (the cheapest) included a pickled cabbage with shiso starter, a little local tofu, tasty, local rice (and plenty of it!), and a plate of seven or eight pieces of grilled eel. We also had an excellent clear soup with two intriguing pieces of eel liver and a spring of kinome (a fragrant leaf). I have eaten a lot of Japanese food, but never the eel liver. They looked very pretty-like an exotic mushroom. The flavor was mild and the texture was not mushy. We had draft beer with our dinner. They have tatami mat rooms upstairs, but we opted for the tables downstairs. I would highly recommend this restaurant. The food is delicious, the service is excellent, and the atmosphere is charming.

Based on the previous reviews we decided to stop by on our way from Fukuoka to Nagasaki. It's not far from the art museum. It closes around 2.30pm.
We picked the squid sashimi. When it came to our table we noticed that the pieces of squid sashimi were on top of an live squid. Initially we even thought that the sashimi was cut from the live squid. We started eating the sashimi although we were a bit concerned about the live squid moving a bit. At some point the lady came and point to the live squid and said tempura. Then we realized that the live squid was just there for show which made us a bit sad.
The tempura came after a while and it was delicious. The squid sashimi was also the fresher sashimi I ever had.
There were also several side dishes that came with the squid. Namely miso soup, some noodles soup, pickled veggies, desert with beans... Something that I don't know the name but tasted like pork.
We shared (more than enough for 2 people) and the bill came up to slightly over ¥3.000 (cash only, you can find ATM's on 7/11).
