Jose Ignasio is a tiny ritzy town and beach about 20 miles east of Punta del Este. The home town of, the only ranked in Pellegrino’s List of 50 Best Latin restaurants in Uruguay, Parillla la Huella. I went alone, because my party lost any hope of finding digestible food in Uruguay. I still kept my hope alive. It was rather cruelly crashed right in this establishment. It started with the host very ungraciously assigning me the most inconvenient seat in this half-empty at the time restaurant, for which I had reservation. I took a liberty of taking a different seat. Unfortunately being alone has restricted my choices. I picked: rabas (breaded fried calamari) - good texture but very salty, deep-fried pejerray (small and usually tender fishes) - hopelessly over-fried preventing me from taking more than one bite, cold apple and cucumber soup (soup of the day) - they simply forgot to bring me one. I have requested a plate of sashimi of local fish. I was brought bizarre combination of raw mushrooms, salmon (which is native to northern hemisphere), over cooked salty shrimp and some local seabassish tasting fish. The service was deteriorating by the minute, as the restaurant was getting busier. I have not seen the same waiter at my table more than once. In summary: I am clueless how they got nominated or included on any of the lists. Underperformed in all areas. They do not seem to care. They are busy anyway…

convenient location for us since we can walk from our home; on busy main street, no view other than people and cars. Fresh, unpretentious décor. Food can be very good. Good wine selection. When it's busy, waitresses tend to get overwhelmed. If you get the owner, she doesn't mind voicing her opinion (which is useful if you are not sure what to order) but when the staff tries to do it, too, it doesn't work as well, they lack the je-ne-sais-pas that you need to get away with it. All in all, I would recommend the place to friends.

Sarava by Dante Liporace offers the very best in Local and Meditarranean cuisine on offer in Uruguay. Located in Arenas De Jose Ignacio on Ruta 10, KM185
We had dinner (late, late dinner...) at this charming restaurant witha group of friends and honestly it was amazing!!!
First of all, the building itself is extremely nice, as it is divided in different spaces that surprise you and completes the dining experience, and even if they did not spend a lot of money it has charm and zero pretentiousness. Great lighting and music also
The food was really good, and even if we were 14 people at a big round table I was able to taste so,e of my friend's food and we all have a blast, even if we are a tough crowd to please. The gazpacho was tasty and the tuna was sublime.
Our waitress was the sweetest and most polite girl ever, and like the rest of the staff coming from Spain
We definitely be back

This truly magical place has become even better than last year. Improvements made to the property but it's simplicity remains. Attention to detail without fussiness is sublime. Augustina's cuisine divine as always, sourced from the freshest local produce. Frankly this place is rather off he beaten track by I'd go there from the North Pole just to keep the warmth of the memory for the rest of the year.

I am starting to have doubts about this place, once among my favorites in the world. Food is still good- smaller portions,it's true. Drinks are a lot worse than in the past, as is the limited wine selection. But service has really deteriorated a lot: toilets had no water and/or were dirty, they were poorly prepared for rain, the awnings were full of holes and could not properly protect clients from the water. Additionally, the manager wanted to leave the place before the clients. As $160/person, I would (and do) expect a lot more. Maybe they should get back to basics and do an internship with La Huella folks!

They have several good dishes, but their Rack of Lamb is super !!! Great local fish is also a good choice. The service was great and the place is full of locals

It is hard to believe that you drive 30 minutes down a dirt road to find this gem and not only is it the best, but also the most expensive, meal we ate in all of Uruguay. It is literally in the middle of nowhere but Frances Mallmann lives up to his reputation in this quaint poolside restaurant serving top notch gourmet food. Truly worth the visit!

Great atmosphere in this fire inspired restaurant. The food was really good, I went twice and both times went for the lamb. Service friendly and professional.

You won't get such an experience at a beach area in a sauvage environment. A good idea built on the sand overseeing a very nice beach close to Jose Ignacio. Chapeau to an investment like this. Usually crowded during season so highly recommend a reservation and ask to be seated on the sand front. The service while hectic make the point to make sure you are well treated. Rather limited options of plates. Desserts are all good.
