the waitress was kinda slow, honestly, she has mental retardation like kinda Down's syndrome, but she was nice... you have to point the food u want to order in the menu... the food was simply ok
I strongly suggest that u plan ur trip without staying overnight at this town, there is nothing to do or see... most guesthouses and restaurants are average to low quality... Luang Namtha (in Laos) and Chiang Khong (in Thailand) are the next cities better to visit

Having just come from Thailand where the food is seriously cheap it came as a shock to start paying £5 for a meal, however we stumbled upon this lovely restaurant on the Mekong banks where food is, on average, between £1-2. I went for the traditional rice dish or Larp, although didn't realise I was as it was written differently on the menu - I thought I was getting noodles! It was really tasty though. My friends has the fried rice which was nice enough, but nothing special (pictured).
Would recommend a visit. We came at lunch time.

Bar-Restaurant; Tel. 089-5565288, 020-55167220, e-m: [email protected]
First restaurant in Laos, after having spent one month in Thailand. We've been highly disappointed...By the prices, by the food and by the staff.
Our plates were big, but completely tasteless. Ordered beef and cashew nuts with rice, it was like boiled beef with some nuts and pepper on top and that's it, no flavour at all. Same for my partner with zucchinis. Not to mention the relative high prices for that poor quality food.
The staff was one of the unfriendliest and unwelcoming we've met in 9 months travelling. Not even a hello, a thank you or please, just "what you want?!" and "that's x kip". Don't open a restaurant if you don't like customers!

Bar How is the hub of Huay Xai. We had a great meal, reasonable prices and good sized meals. Teriyaki chicken for myself and my partners burger didn't touch the sides after a few days in the jungle on the gibbon experience.
Late menu and great range of cocktails..... mango mojito and lycee whiskey shake were unbelievable
As a girl who hates whiskey I was long armed Into some shots from their fermented whiskey selection and they were amazing! Definately try the lycee!!
We had a fab night but we're surprised to find no tuk tuks or taxis operate after 7pm in Huay Xai so we were in a bit of a predicament but the owner very kindly gave us a lift home.... what a gentleman!

ラオス全土ではやっている焼肉ブッフェ。何種類もの肉が食べ放題ということで、家族連れなどでにぎわっていました。ただ、たくさん食べない人にはコスパが悪いです。

We welcome you to enjoy our family atmosphere and relax around the campfire. Our Huay Xai restaurant is a place where you can take your time and experience authentic mountain people's traditions. Huay Xai Restaurant Opening hours: Traditional wood fire cooked mountain style meals, Laotian dishes and mountain style pizza's from our local handmade pizza oven every day from 5 PM till 11 PM. During the day the restaurant is open on request, except during Kajsiab workshops. Ask the Kitchen Team for details. All profits from the restaurant and homestay in Daauw Village go directly towards the Kajsiab Shelter (right next to the kitchen) where currently more than 30 people from the Mountains live to learn before going back to their village. The mountain people are very proud of their skills and the food you will be enjoying is of unique standards, organic and fresh. This means you can take your time to enjoy the warm atmosphere at Daauw Home! Relax around the campfire, listen to stories and music and remember: Quality takes time. .
We enjoyed the place, there was a lovely fire and kids running around. We had to wait a bit for the food but not too long. We had the chicken and salad and rice. The chicken was nice with a smoky flavour, the rice seemed a bit old and the salad was nothing special. The pizzas looked pretty good so all in all I'd recommend this place.

I was Huay Xai for a few days and would get a couple of Americanos everyday. Good coffee and one day I also had a cheese burger for 20,000 Kip. They also offer a varity of cakes and pastries. It was a pleseant coffee shop to hang in and had good, free wifi connection.

Quite nice food and friendly, helpful service. Didn't have everything on the menu, wish isn't that uncommon, but did surprisingly extend to sticky rice (love that stuff, but it really isn't everywhere, apparently!). Decent choice, not particularly better or worse than its competitors.

Had our first lunch in Houayxay here. The restaurant was halfway up the stairs towards Wat Chomkao Manilat, on the left. The restaurant was a bit different from the other restaurants along the streets as it is basically a wooden hut built on the slope. They offered typical Laos food like rice with stirred fried meat, Laos fried noodles, Tom Yum Soup. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. However, it could have been more spicy. Probably they didn't served us the full spiciness since we were tourists. Still recommended to visit for a meal if you are in the area. You can continue on the remaining half of the long flight of stairs after your lunch to visit the Wat.
