Hida Furukawa is very small town but very beautiful and quiet area. I found this restaurant "とと家" maybe "Totoya" when we are walking, this restaurant seems blowfish is good, but we had other fish lunch sets, I ordered the yellowtail teriyaki, very very yummy! and rice and miso suup are also good!
price also reasonable, my set was only 650 yen! vist there when you go to Hida Furukawa!

We ate here twice during our visit to Hidafurukawa... And both times felt so welcome. The hostess and her family served us the freshest of food and even surprised us with serving us some fresh Japanese leafy vegetable (sounded like adzuchina?!?) in tempura which was Oishīdesu!!!!
We loved it here.

We wanted to shelter from the rain and kill some time before taking the cycle tour (See Satoyama Cycle tour review) when we stumbled on this little gem. It is a restored and converted Machiya (Merchants House) that has a traditional Japanese Seating area and a more traditional large western dining table for communal use, with Jazz music and local artists paintings on the wall. The staff that served us were very friendly and our lovely waitress spoke perfect English and was very chatty about her previous travels around the world. We tried some local cakes (Melon bread & Cream bread (custard type filling in a bun), with hot chocolates to drink. Such was the atmosphere and hospitality we ended staying longer and having more cakes / drinks and loved the place and staff. Mainly locals and on the edge of the village near the river, well worth finding for a snack and something a little different.

We thanked our lovely tour guide, Ms. Sumiko Fukami from Sunrise Tour for recommending this exotic restaurant during our 3-day ( Takayama-Shirakawago-Kanazawa Trip ) tour. We were glad that the waiters spoke good English. The setting is pleasant and heartwarming. Food .... wow, we had a yummy time with the hida beef, miso paste on magnolia leaf, an array of exotic preserved local vegetables... the list goes on. The service was excellent and we were rather warmed by the friendly & helpful staff. Thumbs up and we had a great dinner for Christmas Eve!

It's so tasty! A very lovely, dense cheesecake with a small fruit salad on the side! The coffee was filled to the brim and delicious too! The host was really lovely as well but this was definitely a pricey snack stop. Still would go back!

Went to Sobasho Nakaya after it was recommended by our cycling guide and discovered the best buck wheat soba of our trip! And this was after trying one of Takayama's most popular the night before. The quaint corner restaurant is run by a friendly Japanese lady who serves up a perfect balance of cha soba and tsuyu in various serving sizes. She also serves stewed hida beef with radish which to me is a definitely 'must order' side dish. A truly great lunch to end an enjoyable ride thru the hida countryside.

When you visit Japan's Mountains region that is called the Japanese Apls, which boarders the Japan sea, this region produces some of the best buckwheat noodles called Soba. Soba are graded with amount of buckwheat that is the total percentage of the doll, you will be treated with noodles that are made with high percentage of buckwheat or even while buckwheat flour. They are springy and do not stick to your teeth. Perfect for very hot weather to consumed cold. This restaurant follow the tradition well and the side dishes are very well done. The decoration is quite charming with beautiful traditional prints on the wall.
