You have officially landed at Area 51 Ice Cream! Get your taste buds ready to indulge in our handmade artisan ice cream, made from scratch daily here at our shop in Hernando, MS. We truly believe that the best ingredients make the best ice cream. That's why ours is always made with natural, in-season produce. We work closely with other small local businesses, and frequent the Hernando Farmer's Market, to make sure our ice cream is always the freshest, and will help to benefit the community. Our passion for ice cream started from childhood, when a sweet scoop could make the rest of the world melt away. We want to bring that same joy to our customers, every time they get a taste of our rich, specialty ice cream. So if you're ready to take that moment to enjoy the fresh flavors that life has to offer, come on in and tell us which of our small batch options you'd like to make your day complete!
My wife & I were staying in Hernando for the weekend, and we are always up for trying a local ice cream shop. So we stopped at Area 51 mid-afternoon on a Saturday to sample their product.
The shop is relatively small, but has plenty of indoor seating for several small groups of patrons and a couple of spots on the sidewalk out front. The ice cream counter is small, with a limited variety of flavors made in small batches. The young lady behind the counter was friendly, and offered us both samples (which we accepted). I was unimpressed by the Dutch Chocolate that I sampled, so I ordered a single scoop of the Bourbon Butter Pecan. My wife ordered a scoop of Cookies n Cream. Their ice cream has more of a look & consistency of gelato, not creamy & slightly gritty. But the flavors were very bright & fresh, which is why I raised my rating to a '4' for an otherwise average ice cream stop.

Lady Bugg is a family run bakery and restaurant. Everything is made from scratch every day using the best ingredients available. We use locally grown produce and eggs and change our menu seasonally. We are a Project Green Fork establishment and use only recycled and environment friendly products.
I have not had a mediocre lunch here in 3 years. All have been very good. The sandwiches are made on fresh, homemade bread, the quiche is delicious. Service is always good and friendly. A great place to have lunch. Try the front porch.

Highland Court Shopping Center
The wait is not long but that's not reason enough to have a meal there. I've given them three tries and all three times I've been disappointed. Warm sandwiches are not at all warm. Expansive menu but disappointing food.

Unfortunately they are missing an outside sign on the building but look for the sign at street and on door. Family owned AND they serve Almond milk if you prefer. NICE folks and even better coffee.

AC's on the Hernando Town Square is in a convenient location, with curbside angle parking in front & nearby. The exterior reminded me of a former grocery store, and the interior was more pub than steakhouse.
Our table service was friendly but not particularly attentive, especially for a slow Friday early evening with at least three waitresses on duty in a relatively small dining space. I ordered the center cut filet, and the sweet potato mash with walnuts as my side dish. My wife ordered the Spring Salad with shrimp. All of our food was well prepared & presented and had good flavor. But for a small town eatery whose decor is reminiscent of an Applebee's or a Chili's, I was quite surprised by the entree prices. Maybe the local economy can support such an establishment, but to my mind $30 & up steaks have gotta be better than the cut I had.

My husband has only one favorite shop in our home town & it's this Donut shop. He's their biggest tipper, because he love an old fashioned chocolate donut with a cup of coffee, keep the change. Today we all ate there, i enjoyed the blueberry muffin, our son had kolache (hot dog with jalapeños baked in a roll). Rose, the owner visits France.

Went for breakfast with friends and our kids, but they weren't serving breakfast anymore so we ordered off the lunch menu. The chips, queso, and guacamole were good. The enchiladas weren't bad, and my kids loved the quesadillas. My son ordered a pizza off the kids menu (not smart, but he wouldn't listen). It's a pizza with queso on it, and he wouldn't even touch it. It was strange, but the other kids ate it. Overall, it wasn't bad, but south Texans have to be careful getting TexMex outside of Texas!

I can't tell you what the name used to be because I don't want to ruin it for the locals. But if you do go, but a shirt, its has the name of what it used to be called and is still called by the locals ..Lots and lots of choices. just follow steps 1 thru 3 and you'll be just fine

Small, Family run bakery business offering a variety of fresh cheesecakes baked daily, as well as a light lunch offering of sandwiches including chicken salad, pimento cheese, ham, Turkey, and club on a variety of breads. We can seat up to 32 people in our dining area and would be happy to host your party or special event!
What a quaint little place. It's located just right off the beautiful historic square.
The cheesecake is creamy, flavorful and a true treat. We have tried several flavors from strawberry to carmel chocolate chunk.
They also have flavor of the week specials.
You will not be disappointed with the slices or buying a whole cake.
Enjoy!

The food was delicious - wonderfully prepared and presented - generous portions - decorated nicely. We stayed the night in Hernando and hotel clerk recommended this restaurant. Super glad that he did. Such a pleasant experience. Would love to have this place near us!
