Please note our café & pub is open in summer 5 days a week, but in autumn and winter our guesthouse runs as B&B (restaurant open only for groups with advance bookings).

Very pleasant restaurant with wide variety of Irish beer and whiskey. You will also find some Irish food in their menu. Restaurant's interior is nice and the way they are serving food is also interesting - it is served in old pots/pans. Also service is good.

We had a table reservation for 5 people, but only 4 of us had a chance to sit in the same table. The fifth person had to sit in a separate table next to us, not nice at all. The restaurant was really crowded because it was a lunch time. The older gentleman who served us tried to be jokey and fun but he did not really succeed. Anyway, we managed to place our orders. The salad buffet was quite poor and plain, also the bread served was dryish. It was very noisy in the restaurant and the constant hassle made the lunch moment far from relaxing.
The tenderloin steaks were rather small and even if I asked for a medium one, it was almost well done and drowning in creamy pepper sauce. The baked potato was tasteless, no salt and with some unseasoned creme fraiche. A miniature-sized cup of hot veggies followed at the plate, too. The dish was somewhat pricey, 33 euros is too much for this portion.
Overall, not a specially nice lunch. The restaurant should really concentrate on the level of service and also preparation of the food. The premises are in a need of renovation, too.

A restaurant with a Terrace to the river/lake in the city of Heinola. You can follow the riverlife like boats and waterscooterdrivers when waiting your dinner. And be prepared to wait: our 6-persons team waited 45 minutes.
We ate fish, chicken, liver and beef. Everybody of us said that the food was okey, but still not worth of the money. Our coffee was never served, and had no time to wait anymore.
The customerservice was so bad that there must be a huge lack of personal in this restaurant. So, if you go and take a beer in the Terrace, this place is excellent, but be very patient if you want to eat something and do not expect to get a gourmet.

I reviewed Harjupaviljonki last August and thought I'd add a few good words and a short update.
They have kept their standards well. The service is excellent, the staff very pleasant and friendly and quite clearly enjoy their work in this quaint "old world" villa. Lovely interior, views breathtaking and if the weather should turn out sunny, you can enjoy the nice outside area.
The waffles are delicious, plenty of sweet and savoury choices.
This is the update: they have added some new toppings. I'm sure many non-Finnish customers will appreciate the Nutella version, but if you are a larger group from outside the Baltic countries, you might want to share the Salmiakki version. Sort of very heavily salted liquorice, a very Finnish delicacy and a very acquired taste. Most of your company could enjoy the strawberry jam and whipped cream waffles or the smoked salmon version, but if you feel adventurous, this just might be one of the most memorable waffles you'll try whilst your holiday in Finland. You have been warned :D
Do stop by, you'll love the waffles the villa and the lovely staff :)

Situated by the motorway might make you think that it is just a gas station with cafe. Fortunately it is a lot more. There you can find a grocery shop, fast food and pizza but, above all, it is a great lunch restaurant. Food is tasty and lots of varieties are served. Special mention for a delicious salad buffet. If you prefer a la carte, it is also available. This place is really worth a stop!

Food was pretty good (four small dishes), however difference to cheaper (three small dishes) were shrimps, and only one shrimp was included. Dessert as banana with ice cream was worst I've ever eaten in chinese.
Staff was far from friendly and did now speak finnish or english that good. With lack of competition in area it's easy not to be getting better, as it is happenining here.

The atmosphere is cozy and charming, the host gracious , the baked goods exquisite and coffee well and caringly brewed. Soon one might need to make a reservation for breakfast - if that day comes, just DO IT!

This restaurant has been recently renovated with a good taste. They serve delicious lunches at a reasonable price. The location is convenient, only 200 meters from the heart of Heinola. Lots of parking space can be found near the restaurant. This place is really worth a visit when looking for a nice lunch.

This nice pizzeria is located in a hood only 1 km from the town center. It has become a place where my family regularly eats - and we have never been disappointed. They serve a wide variety of tasty pizzas and kebabs and also a buffet lunch is available on weekdays. The service is very fast, friendly and polite. The restaurant has been renovated recently and it is very clean and cozy. Highly recommendable place, definitely worth a try!
