Well-earned culinary joy. Known for its exciting and tasty food with an international and exotic character prepared with the very best of local ingrediences. A taste of North Norwegian hospitality at its best.! Situated in Gamle Hoelgarden on the marked square in Harstad city centre.
Harstad is not a large city and not on a route to anywhere, really! And despite these facts they have such an excellent restaurant. I am surprised and amazed!
We started of with a perfect reindeer carpaccio that really tasted arctic forest with mushrooms and dried apple-flakes. Outstanding.
Then we had the cod with mashed potatoes - also excellent.
Our main was fillet of ox - cooked to perfection - but, this was not as tender as expected. Still - very good!
We finished off with a dessert that was pure bliss. Have a four-course menu and you will be satisfied.

Typical chain restaurant, food as you'd expect but tasty enough. The staff were rather disinterested.

European café situated at ground floor open from 10pm and a fine dining restaurant in the first floor open mon to sat from 18..
Small menu with salads and such plus daily specials for dinner: salad, pasta, fish, soup, and meat. We ate dinner. I had a salad which was supposed to have trout, but they had to substitute halibut. Fish was cooked very well. Salad was delicious. My husband enjoyed his pasta special. We shared a rich chocolate dessert. Nice selection of beer, wine, and full bar. Inviting interior. Friendly, helpful waiter. Order at the bar. Fancier restaurant upstairs.

I know this place very well since I keep coming back with family and friends. It,s the 10th generation that is living on this farm that was turned into a gourmet restaurant. The surroundings are beautiful, whether you want to observe the Northern Lights (borealis) in the dark period, or the Midnight Sun in the summer time.
There are also 3 rooms for B&B, a 9 hole golf course and boat rental for fishing.

I came to Trondenes together with my family to visit the museum, and decided to sit down for coffee and waffles before our tour. The cafe provided us with simple, but well-tasting refreshments, nice staff and a beautiful view in a cozy environment.
There lies a yellow pearl by the sea at Hemmestad. Time has stood still here for almost 200 years. History is everywhere. The store, the cod liver barrel and the nordlandsboat that bathe in the sun on the pebble beach, help to create a magical feeling from days gone by. Today the trading post is a museum where the old building on the wharf stands intact with shop, post office, store and museum Exhibitions. Off-season by appointment.

One of Norways most unique restaurants preparing local food from seasonal ingredients. As guest you have an exceptional view to the kitchen and chefs. Booking in advance only!
We had a superb 4 course wine paired menu from Umami on the rooftop restaurant at Hotel Thon. Everything was delicious, and the wine perfect, from a sparkling start to a Madeira finish. And then the northern lights showed well, so we went onto the Terrace and were stunned further. A night to remember. The chefs at Umami know how to entertain, and put on a personal show, explaining the menu at each course.

Had a fantastic meal in this restaurant with a group of colleagues. The food was very good and all enjoyed their choices. Just remember you're visiting Norway and things are very very expensive. You won't need to remortgage before going but not far off! !
