We had a local recommend this place. It was very good. The fried chicken and shrimp po-boy were great! Portions were huge. You could definitely share the half fried chicken with someone!

I like so many other people went for king cake.
But while I was there I spotted a couple other things I had to try. First I picked out one of the chocolate hand pies. This I wouldn't bother getting again. basically tastes like the old Hostess offerings with a little more filling in it. Okay, but nothing special.
The other thing I spotted on the way out that I just couldn't resist were the gigantic cream puffs. And I do mean GIGANTIC! They were quite simply huge being quite a bit larger than my hand. I got two of these bad boys and they filled a box on their own!
What I didn't know was besides the chocolate on the outside the filling was chocolate too! I wasn't upset in the least!
We got two king cakes, one regular and one brownie. Both were very good.
So would I go back to Haydel's on my next visit to New Orleans? Absolutely.

Great local taste of Louisiana. Moderately priced and nice food quantities. I had my "go to" food choices - boudin balls, oyster poboy, and seafood gumbo. Chef Ron did NOT disappoint. Place is pretty small, but has that neighborhood feel. Our waitress was great and had a fantastic sense of humor.

If you like real Louisiana seafood with po-boys that overflow, friendly service, and good prices, this is the place! We were doing business nearby and asked where did they like for lunch. Sooo... we be bopped in and had meals that were overflowing with goodness. My buddy hat hot roast beef and gravy, I had blackened shrimp- just fantastic!
There's not a lot of tables and you might consider sharing one to get seated, but you won't be disappointed!

I had the salted caramel and turtle ice cream and it was delicious! There was a line in the shop and it is cash only but we were not disappointed. The ice cream is flavorful and creamy and the prices were reasonable. I would go back again.

I have just returned from a lunch at Oak Oven, and I should probably delay writing this review because I am still worried about my experience. Nevertheless, I begin. At Oak Oven, there were experiences wonderful and then some worrisome.
WONDERFUL: My luncheon companion enjoyed her chicken marsala, I thought that my small portion of pappardelle was wonderful, despite its significant price for a small portion ($13). The pasta was near perfect, with very well prepared shrimp and a zesty lemon sauce.
.
WORRISOME: I begin in the parking lot. My companion is an elderly lady who much needs to use her walker. I do not have a handicap sticker for my car; so I parked as near the side door as I could. From the car to the door was a perilous adventure, negotiating with big pick up trucks to pass and keeping the walker wheels rolling smoothly. Along the side of the building is a wooden platform which would have helped but for three things: one, the platform is raised about seven inches off the parking lot pavement. My friend had some difficulty in climbing aboard this low pier. Two, the pier was not smooth, with the distance between boards making her walker bounce. Three, there were planters planted on the pier which required my lady to lean out into the parking lot in order to pass the planters. To pass from the pier into the doorway, my friend had to lean out again into the parking lot so that I could open the door which, by law probably, leans out. There is no ramp from the lot into this side door approach, just the same seven inch step up. There is a ramp near the handicap parking area, thirty feet away from the side door, but that ramp leads into the front "portico" portion of the restaurant. That ramp would have been another twenty feet for my friend to maneuver. A kindly hostess let us sit at the table nearest the side door.
We ordered two glasses of the "house chardonnay." I had read in a prior tripadvisor post the house wine was $5. The waiter brought us two half glasses each, saying something about having to open or to find another bottle. He later brought us two half glasses to complete the pour. The wine was acceptable for a five dollar glass.
.
When the bill arrived, it showed two glasses of Alexander Valley chardonnay at nine dollars each. I showed the error to the waiter and asked him to correct it as we had ordered two "house" wines. He assured me that the Alexander Valley was the house chardonnay.
.
First worry: the wine poured did not at all taste like Alexander Valley, although it could have been as I was attentive to my friend and not to the wine. Second, one always expects the house wine to be cheaper than premium wines. Third, there was no listing for "house" wine on the wine chart. So, maybe their "house" chardonnay is indeed an Alexander Valley at nine dollars, a quite impressive pour.
.
I made sure that my dining companion did not perceive my pique, because I wanted her to enjoy the wonder of the place and not my worries. However, I am confident that I will not return to Oak Oven with that kind lady.... or with anyone.

Stopped in for the first time recently with some business colleagues. The bar service and wait staff were friendly and welcoming. The BBQ shrimp and Hebert’s fries as apps were pretty tasty. The catfish was pretty good and everyone’s meals were prepared as ordered. In general everyone enjoyed the first time experience.

A roadside watering hole with great food! Open seven days a week at 11am. Great lunch specials during the week and live music every Friday and Saturday night.
I usually have the Reuben (Trudy Years) at Rivershack, and I should have had one this time too. I asked my pleasant waitress her favorite; she suggested The Usual Suspects where the pastrami, corned beef, and roast beef were good quality and plentiful, but their disparate tastes left satiety lacking. The two Lagunitas IPA helped me to forgive, but, horrors, The Shack no longer serves Pilsner Urquell. My companion had a club sandwich which was unremarkable as perhaps a club should be. ... ... ...
Prices here are not cheap, with the sandwiches at $9.75 each and the Lagunitas at $5.50, but the quality is not cheap. ... .... I do have a significant problem with the wheelchair accessibility. I cannot see any. There are four tall steps which are impossible for the wheeled diners. Perhaps there is an handicapped entrance in the back of which I am unaware, but I have been coming to the Shack for almost two decades and I have never seen one. Time to step up, Shack.

A great restaurant hidden in Harahan that offers much more than fried entrees (fried entrees are also available). Well prepared fish and oysters are served here especially the sautéed snapper topped with shrimp, mushrooms, capers, artichoke hearts and a beurre blanc sauce. The oysters are excellent as is the gumbo. Chef Brandon Green offers a delectable menu of Cajun and Creole dishes and a couple of steaks too. Our service by Eric was perfect and the prices are very reasonable. Thank you owner, Shelley Flick and Chef Green for providing a delightful evening. This is a must return restaurant.

We really enjoyed our pizza and would definitely visit again. Quaint old school pizza parlor and loved the Mark Twain motif! Breadsticks were delicious as well!
