Marukan Department Store's restaurant is on the top floor, offering some nice views if you can snatch a window seat. Usually busy on the weekends, it has a Showa style cafeteria. You order at the till, get food tickets, and go sit down. Someone will eventually come and take away half of your ticket. When they come back with the food they take the other half. Of course, it is most famous for the tall soft serve ice creams eaten with chopsticks. They come in a little stand too so you don't have to hold the cone. It is surprisingly fun! Everyone thinks so though, so sometimes the wait gets quite long... during Hanamaki Festival you are looking at about an hour! Regular weekend isn't that bad though. The pizza is also very good, the most similar to Canadian pizza that I have had in Japan, and only 500 yen!

At Yabuya main shop, you can challenge how many bowls of Soba noodle you can eat. Wanko-Soba is a mouthful Soba noodle in a bowl and peoples are competing
in terms of number of bowls consumed. A volume of noodle in bowl is a little, but to be
the grand champion at the Wanko-Soba competition to be held annualy you must eat
over 200 bowls. It is roughly over the standard volume for 20 peoples.
After trial at Yabuya, they will issue the certificate of number of bowls consumed which
should be interesting. Wanko-Soba is famous and only available in Morioka prefecture.
Average is about 50 for male and 40 for female.

ミックスサンドイッチは丁寧に作られていてまずまずでした、単品で飲み物無しで頼んだら後で温かい日本茶をサービスして下さいました～こう云う経験は初めてでお心遣いに老人ホッコリ
ウエイトレスさん達は柔らかな対応です。
メニューの数が和洋取り混ぜてとても多くこれだけ用意なさるのは大変だろうなと、賢治記念館側の当店はなかなかの繁盛店で文字通り注文の多いお店。

ホテル内にある和食屋さんです。本格的なコースから、気軽な定食類まで、メニューが豊富なのが良いです。和食のコース料理を頂きましたが、薄味ながらも上品な味付けで、とても美味しかったです。

Having a soba speed eating competition for lunch is a unique experience. For an enjoyable experience, however, I would recommend skipping the wanko soba challenge and instead ordering the normal soba, with the duck soba being especially delicious.

Fresh hamburger: you can hear them shaping the patties in the kitchen. Fun part is choosing the toppings: pineapple, gouda, bacon, tomato sauce and cheese, spinach and bacon, etc. (You pay a little extra for each topping.) I recommend the bread side (says foccacia but it had corn in it... Japanese style haha). I saw some people with the rice side and it looked huge!
