Hambantota (Sinhalese: හම්බන්තොට, Tamil: அம்பாந்தோட்டை) is the main town in Hambantota District, Southern Province, Sri Lanka. This underdeveloped area was hit hard by the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami and is undergoing a number of major development projects including the construction of a new sea port and international airport finished in 2013. These projects and others such as Hambantota Cricket Stadium are said to form part of the government's plan to transform Hambantota into the second major urban hub of Sri Lanka, away from Colombo.

This truly is a canteen. Myself and my husband visited for dinner as we were staying in the local area.
They didn't have most of the dishes on the menu available, just rice and noodles, it came within five minutes and we left within fifteen, it was greasy and generally terrible. The noodles were of Super Noodle quality and the only thing we actually ate or drank was the locally produced water.
The manager also tried to set my husband up with a local girl when he went outside for a cigarette, despite him mentioning he was already married at least three times. AVOID!

Transport yourself to the hawker stalls of Southeast Asia for street-style food, all freshly prepared with aromatic spices, herbs and ingredients.
We were looking forward to a great Hawker Stall experience at Sera, all you can eat for approximately 6,900 Rps, but unfortunately the service and general disorganisation let the fantastic food down. When we sat down three different waiters told us conflicting instructions for how the Hawker Stall concept worked. It was very confusing leading to some tables giving orders and being served by waiters, they also had the all you can eat option, whilst others had to go up to the chefs themselves. Some of the chefs were not very forthcoming in taking orders making us feel awkward and confused as we stood around trying to work out what we were supposed to do. Drinks were VERY slow to be served, crab crackers had to be asked for a few times and wobbly tables never fixed despite asking a number of times. Some waiters spent more time folding the napkins of people who had gone to the stalls than helping the rest of us understand the concept. Thank goodness for the small in height chef who came from the other restaurant, I think, who organised everyone and was incredibly helpful. We put it down to an off evening but the disorganisation at Sera was completely at odds from what we expect from a Shangri-La.
All that being said, the food was fantastic and it's what has stopped the rating being poor. The lobster and crab dishes were the stars of the show with the most delicious sauces. It was really hard not to fill ourselves with the amazing starters and soups which were authentic to the South East Asian Hawker theme but with a Sri Lankan twist. Compliments to the chefs for cooking the seafood perfectly!
The Shangri-La at Hambantota is an amazing hotel and the issue we experienced at Sera in no way sullied out experience of our overall stay which was fabulous.

Sample the finest authentic Sri Lankan cuisine along with a variety of international dishes at this all-day dining restaurant. From mouth-watering hoppers to delectable pol sambol, get a real taste of Sri Lanka whenever the craving strikes.
We dined at this restaurant for breakfast and dinner during our stay at Shangri-La, Hambantota.
Food was delicious. They had good variety for both dinner and breakfast and dinner served according to a theme, Italian night etc.
Western, Chinese and Italian dishes were great! Sri Lankan dishes can be improved, though.
Kids have a separate corner with a mini buffet with goes well with family theme of the hotel.
There are gluten free food as well including pasta.
Staff was friendly, attentive and quick with special requests and arrangements.

This is the place to chill your taste buds with our delicious Chinese and authentic sri lankan cuisine. Come on down and give us a try.
not a family restaurant!, when we were there for dinner with my family it was an average hall with few tables. we where the only guests to dinner there, at first but after 20 odd min, the next table start drinking and creating unwanted issues for all other tables.
food was average and cold nothing to write home about

Inspired by Sri Lanka's colonial heritage, Ulpatha (Watering hole) is the perfect place to unwind after a game of golf, with a fine selection of malt whiskies and other beverages and snacks.
Simple grill menu where you choose your meat/seafood, starch, greens and sauce. Everything was cooked to perfection especially the calamari which was actually large pieces of squid that melted in the mouth. Very friendly waiters also. It was fairly quiet when I visited so the atmosphere was very chilled and relaxed. I'd definitely recommend Ulpatha, as an alternative to the busier restaurants, to those staying in the Shangri-La Hambantota.

Guests can enjoy healthy, freshly made drinks after a morning yoga class; afternoon tea or a selection from the cocktail trolley after a day’s exploring at Gimanhala; champagne at sunset and a nightcap by candlelight.
If you're in Hambantota Sri Lanka, worth coming to enjoy food, cocktails (nice bar) and music ? on an open Terrace set up. Staff are very friendly and attentive, 5 ⭐️ standard. My mom and sister went more than thrice ?
