What a wonderful meal we had here! The staff were very friendly, accommodating, and helpful. The food was excellent, and their desserts were amazing. The food was the traditional menu, but with some modern touches. The portions are very large, like much of Portugal, so I would advise half portions. We were there on a Thursday night, and it was very quiet. When we returned the next night, it was very busy, and we only wanted desserts and ports after eating elsewhere (unfortunately). Despite the bustle, they were happy to take care of us. Highly recommended!

A different restaurant, stylish with more international cuisine. Staff is professional however, sometimes a bit 'pushing'. Give your guests some time to settle and study the menu and wine
list and never bring the bill to the table when your guests have not asked for it! This happened to us while we actually wanted to order a glass of local brandy with a second cup of coffee!

Visiting this excellent bakery has been part of my family for decades now! They are known for their fabulous pastries/desserts, but also offer salted options (finger foods).
Their birthday cakes are awesome and I cherish the memories of my youth, when my grandfather would bring us "goodies" from Clarinha...living overseas for years now, each time I return home, my visit is not complete without the daily "pastry and coffee treat".
A must if your visiting the city of Guimarães!

Hool is a restaurant and bar located at Oliveira Square that offers the best of the traditional cuisine, as well as the best of the international cuisine. With several options A la Carte, it also has a service of Bar, which will enrich your moments of pleasure and contemplation at the most iconic square in the city. The exterior Terrace under a romantic archway is one of the attractions of Hool restaurant.
Situated at Hotel da Olivera - this restaurant has an exclusive viewing of the plaza & the outdoor section is covered (under portico of hotel). Service is warm, friendly & staff speak excellent English. The food is traditional Portuguese & delicious. The duck with rice...MoreFirst of all we would like to thank you for your visit and subsequent evaluation. We were extremely pleased you had a great experience. We hope to have the pleasure of receiving You again.

I was recommended this place by a local driver, who told me I wouldn't get a better steak Sandwich anywhere in the world.
When we arrived, we had to wait for a table because it was rammed with locals. Which is a good sign.
Sat down and were handed a Portuguese menu. Every option starts with 'Prego de Lombo' which translates as 'loin claw' on google. It actually means 'steak sandwich' so don't panic. I also found out after spending AGES looking for the word 'bife' (beef, duh), that they actually also have English menu's. I must look like a local.
Anyway, the Sandwich was great (bits of mine were a teeeeeeny bit chewy, but my parter's was perfect), the wedges and dips were lovely and the beer was cold. Win win win. I don't technically agree with the driver though, I've had better.
The service was pretty slow though, and the waiter forgot to bring us our second round of drinks which was a bummer. He didn't really seem to care either.
I recommend getting here before you're really hungry, because if it's busy, you're in for a bit of a wait.
Also they don't take credit/debit card, unless you're lucky enough to have a Portuguese bank account. I am not and had to go for a wander.

Found this little pearl thanks to TripAdvisor. Went here for lunch with the family. The fact that there was a short line outside said enough. Only ten tables, which are being run by one, good English speaking, girl. She is the best. Remembering everything in her mind. The food was good and the pricing was great. Absolute recommending this place.

Let me start my review with the following statement: I'm a picky sushi eater!
With this said I have to say that the sushi from this restaurante is quite good at a quite decent price. Besides the sushi ive tried giosas and drank some sangria which were also nice.
Might not be the best in Guimarães but it is up there.
hint: Be carefull with the sangria if you are driving

The concept was born by the love between Bárbara and Christian, wich create a cozy place with a contemporary touch. Le Babachris distinguishes itself by offering is customers an amazing experience, where simple ingredients give place to exquisite dishes worked with passion and creativity with an influence of French and Mediterranean cuisine.
You have a choice of 4 courses at 28 euros or 6 courses at 35 euros.
Each dish was amazing and I am from San Francisco area and there the same dinner would be at least 100 dollars per person. It compares to a one star Michelin at home.
The service was also excellent

Rated #1, itappealed to us based on terrific reviews. We clicked on the website in TripAdvisor which took us to the Facebook page of the restaurant and from there to their menu.
The place is hard to find -- off the beaten path and with poor signage. If you go, its because you made the effort as you will not stumble onto this place. We had almost given up, crawling Don Joan IV street when we finally found it --- a nice stone building.
Service is top of the line - somewhat stiff but in line with the establishment. The restaurant is small.
The food was excellent - and fresh. We had the sautéed mushroom with eggplant as a starter - yummy and well prepared. We decided to order 1/2 portion of lamb and veal -- the lamb was delicious, along with the potatoes au gratin. The veal - we find to be overcooked and tough - an unfortunate detail.
Note that the menu on Facebook is not updated -- My Mission was to have their octopus which was listed on the menu on line ---
This restaurant is a safe bet for a good meal --
