It's been a while since I last reviewed Guilford Bistro. Nearly ten years later, it's still a wonderful place to have either lunch or dinner. Go during the week and avoid the crowds, the seating is comfortable, the service friendly and quick, and the food is better than ever. A recent entree of Bistro Salmon I had was flavorful and the fish perfectly cooked.

Best ice cream, but the portion size appears to be dwindling in shoreline shops. Confirmed by staff who have been directed by supervisors. No longer provide full scoops. Don't seem to care if customer is dissatisfied with value for their money. No longer feel like it's worth 5.00 for a cone.

Great fresh fruits and vegetables. They also feature a large selection of wines and the bakery is fabulous. Bishop’s Orchards have many events during the year. It is alot of fun for the kids. Keep up with the action on their facebook page.
It is not a place to buy a week’s worth of groceries due to the high prices but a great filler of specialty items.

Stopped here for lunch on our way to Mystic. Lovely little cafe with great soup & sandwiches. Super friendly staff. Lovely location over-looking the Green.Thank you for the kind review. I love that you mentioned my staff! They are truly some of the most wonderful people that I know. Hope to see you again soon.

Husband and I stopped in for lunch on a beautiful sunny day. We hadn't planned on stopping by. If we had, we might have brought some sides or some nice wine glasses. In any event, we brought a bottle of wine. They gave us paper cups and ice. The regular clams tasted briny, full of the sea, and had a lot of juice. Probably would have been better with a bit of butter and lemon. The corn was to die for, might have been even better if it was cooked so it was brown in places. My husband thought the bluefish roasted in foil was pretty bland and a poor choice. The concept is great. They might take it a bit further and try to bring it to the next level. Offer some sides, or bread or dipping sauces. Just a couple more options done with the best quality would be worth paying a bit more for.

I am astounded by the variety of the fine baking that is done at Hen & Heifer. The setting is lovely and this is the closest I have seen to a Paris bakery in the US. Ever. Amazing cakes, cookies, puddings, trifles- what don't they whip up? The croissants sell out in the early a.m. every time. Artful and delightful. Truly a master is in the kitchen. Alice in Wonderland's tea party, could be held here. Just magical.

We do take-out from this restaurant a couple of times a month and often stop by for dinner on Sunday nights when they feature live jazz. The food is consistently good and the music, while a little more erratic, ranges from just interesting to excellent. They have a lot of guest performers, so it depends on who is there. Look for Jeff Fuller and his Brazilian Jazz or some of the other groups he works with, the house band is okay, but the guests performers make the evening. At least the food is dependably good.

Wonderful staff greet you at the same time the sweet scent of chocolate does!! They have samples of fudge, we had Sea Salt, it was great!! We saw tons of fruit dipped in chocolate, sport teams displayed on decorate foils covering chocolate, and Ice Cream!
You can purchase packaged or weighed chocolate. The selection of treats are too many to mention. You MUST stop in, prices are reasonable, you will not be disappointed. You don't have to like chocolate to visit, other sweet treats available.

South Lane Bistro is a comfortable little restaurant tucked away behind the stores fronting the town green. The food is delicious (my very favorite is the grilled salmon sandwich but almost everything is very good), the service is friendly (although they don't take reservations so sometimes the wait is long--on Friday night it took us an hour to get a table) and the wine list is good. Except for the wait, you really can't go wrong here.
