From the reviews thought this would be a great local place. First they must have thought it was 95 degrees outside, wife had to wear sweater and was still cold. Everyone talked about how great the salad bar was, it left a lot to be desired. Food was served hot and tasted good. Waitress was great.
It's just hard to enjoy your meal when you are shivering

Weathervane has been a Granite City institution for many years and there is a reason for it- it's delicious and very unique. The ice cream is so very yummy and they have a plethora of ice cream concoctions including rockets, drumsticks, shakes, ice cream sodas, floats, and sundaes. However, I will say that it has gotten quite pricey over the years. If my husband and I each get a sundae, the bill is anywhere from $10-12. It is still my favorite ice cream though!

Drive down Madison Avenue too fast and you'll miss this little storefront shop that's been around the better part of a century. I was introduced to this place by a former co-worker who's grandfather was from this tidy little working class town. I have only had the fried cod sandwich, but it really is the best fish sandwich anywhere. A thick cod filet breaded and fried by genuine Croatian immigrants, topped with a homemade pepper relish between two slices of cream bread. The Cream bread, made daily at a bakery in St. Louis, is so soft and spongy it makes wonder bread look like Roman Meal. I had not been here for over 20 years, and I'm happy to say that not one thing has changed. I made a 15 minute detour off of interstate 64 to share an experience with my 15 year old son. He silently ate the whole sandwich, looked up and proclaimed it the best meal of his entire life. Long live authenticity! Cash only!

Fabulous and cozy atmosphere, charming. Great breakfast and lunch menu. Lots of sugar free coffee flavors to choose from. Friendly staff. Baked goods looked amazing especially the HUUUGE brownies. Three sidewalk tables with pretty flowers. Tables and comfy furniture seating indoors.

Quaint atmosphere oozing with history/nostalgia. Sandwiches are excellent. Fresh and large portions. Ingredients are top shelf. Can’t go wrong with any dessert.

We ( 4 of us) stopped by for a light dinner at the Apple Tree and were satisfied with every aspect of our dining experience.
We all had hot sandwiches and there promptly served and met all our expectations.
Our server was terrific with a big warm smile and a great personality.
We plan on returning for breakfast soon.

While traveling from Springfield il with my family, we decided to stop in at the Granite City Ravanellis location. Our service was amazing! We noticed there were a few larger group of parties and everyone was pretty busy. Our server Katie M. Made sure to not only make my myself and family feel welcome but took wonderful care of us! Always making sure our drinks were filled and checking on us to see how we were enjoying our food. Their manager this evening, I believed her name was Aj (young blonde woman) was out there encouraging the servers and making sure all customers were having a great dining experience! Great service, great team work, and great food! My family and I will definitely be back and will definitely recommend it others! Great job all around!

This is a treat of a restaurant, with a retro building that retains the splash of our grand past. The menu is similarly delightful, featuring daily homemade soups that are to die for, each one different daily. There are also sandwiches, wonderful salads, desserts to...MoreThank you for choosing Fountain on Locust! We're thrilled to hear you enjoyed our mini chocolate sunday and the very small cone! We had dinner when this restaurant first opened couple years ago and thought it was good. This was our first trip back and we are very glad we returned for lunch. First the service was very good; attentive, friendly and professional.
My wife had the pulled pork with a nice slaw sandwich. However the side of Brussel sprouts was outstanding. She thinks these are amongst the best she has had. Flashed fried with a touch of bacon, salt and pepper. We will go back for just these. The server said when ordered as an appetizer they are even better with shallots and touch more spice.
I had the double cheese with bacon toasted cheese sandwich with onion rings. The sandwich was very good served on a peasant bread. Onion rings were ok.
We will be back soon

First off Jerry is my brother-in-law but even if he wasn't I would highly recommend this cafeteria to anyone who loves fried chicken. The desserts are made in house and some of them are made from my grandma's recipes and are still delicious. The prices are very reasonable for the portion size so you shouldn't go away hungry. Try it...you'll like it.
