Things to do in Gjirokaster

The castle ramparts towering over Gjirokastër aren't the highest point in the city. At the tippy-top of the next hill over is the just re-opened Kerculla, the end of the road. It looks forbiddingly high, like a walk that would be unlikely to be worth the trouble. That kind of thinking would be a mistake. The food is the best you'll get in Gjirokastër. The restaurant is pleasant enough, the views are spectacular and the service is OK, although English isn't their specialty. But it's the food that makes Kerculla worth the schlep up the mountain. They serve the traditional food of the region and take a great deal of pride in getting it just right.

This charming little family-run restaurant is both cosily located in a leafy corner of Gjirokastra, and dedicated to the art of serving the classics with brio and economy. We are vegetarians and were amply served: beautiful fresh salads; Albanian rice balls (quifke), vegetable qofte and pickles; fried peppers; deep-fried potatoes; excellent yogurt. There's the charcoal grill inside to keep off the chill or a shaded section outdoors for sunny days and balmy evenings. Dependable, good value, friendly and delicious.

Restaurant Pizzeria Ndrico is located near the highway, south of the village of Derviciani, just 7 km south of the town of Gjirokastra. Its new located is next to the highway with easy access form the road and large parking place for its guests. It has an indoor area which is fully air conditioned area and non-smoking. Outside it has a large Terrace. Traditional albanian and greek cuisine is served, beside italian style pizza and pasta all backed in traditional wooden oven.
A friend of mine recomended the place while we were visiting Gjirokaster. We entered Dervican and found out the restaurant was now located outside the village, on the national road to Kakavije. It is more or less 1km away.
The food is good. The cookers use too much oil, cream and butter though so I recomend to go easy on the menu. You got to wait a little bit for the food to arrive but you dont get just heated food, you get propper cooked food.
The service is really good and the waiters are always helpful and smiling. The owners offers free fruit or desserts which I find very very lovely of them.
About the place I would say that thoufht it is clean it is a bit outdated. If you stay inside for more than 25 minutes you will smell of baked meat. Theres always a mess for parking but they manage it pretty well though.
I definitely recomend it.

Its a great restaurant with very delicious dishes from Gjirokastra .. The best place to enjoy the qifqi and meatballs of Gjirokastra
I stopped here for a coffee during my visit to Gjirokaster and was charmed. The delightful owner welcomed me, made me feel at home, served a delicious cappuccino, and included slices of a nice moist cake to accompany. Sitting outside, in the shade, it was a nice morning respite.

This place boasts a youthful vibe and cool decorations while serving a nice array of Albanian classics. All our food choices - salads, veg, potatoes, meat - were good versions of Albanian classics. The outdoor space looked nice too. Location is great, near several popular hotels.

We visited Kodra on the recommendation of our hotel, and were not disappointed. The open air view is wonderful, the atmosphere inviting.
The food is excellent. Perhaps a little more expensive than some other Albanian restaurants, but well worth and still extremely cheap for foreigners.
The most surprising thing here is the warm and attentive service. In no other Albanian establishment have I seen such friendly and dedicated staff. The serve you quickly, check back often (but not too often so as to be intrusive) and bring your food in the correct order--apps first, then mains. This may sound trivial but everywhere else has just brought them all at once.
If you're in Gjirokastra, you have to stop by, grab a table with a view and enjoy a wonderful evening here.

The food is fantastic, home-cooked & inexpensive. The restaurant is owned by a mother and daughter and the daughter speaks fluent Italian. She even gave me an extra dish of peppers with ricotta cheese and something else as I was waiting for my main dish. The menu is in English. The location is around the corner from one of the main streets in the Old Town.

one of the best environments and characteristic of the city of Gjirokastra , the construction of the restaurant is made according to tradition the city , so craft , location Square " Cerciz Topulli " makes its best and we bottoming visited by tourists , landscape offered by the restaurant is good , has a castle overlooking the town and surrounded by houses the museum of the first category , also t
Location very nice and convenient for the old town and castle.
How they managed to get a lukewarm mince layer on a frozen base, with a cold topping on our two mussaka's, only they know! Also, cream chicken was nearly raw (but at least it was hot).
Service was polite but very slow. Also getting the bill was a bit of an exercise too.Very much overpriced for Albania.
I will return to Berat but will definitely not put Dorado on my do-list!

The English speaking host at our Hotel Domino suggested this restaurant.
We walked ~300 meters to the bottom of the bazaar and waited for an available table on the open veranda. The attentive English speaking waiter presented an English menu supplimented by an Albanian picture menu.
He took our order, brought our drinks, and 15 minutes later, our hot lunch selections; Tavi Kosi(lamb baked in yoghurt casserole), Spinach Pie, followed by one Trilece for dessert.
Everything was well prepared and delicious for 1,600 Lek.
