Alana Fresh food straight from the market. Specializing in grilled meat and Cretan cuisineThe restaurant's name derives from the old times. Alana was a place that kids of all the neighbourhood used to join together and play. It was first established in 1986 at the heart of the old town of Rethymno in Salaminos street , the central street under the castle of Fortezza and used to be one of the first tavernas in the area. With 200 seats it was the most crowdy place of the old town. In 2002 under new management, the place transformed to a more relaxing restaurant with 100 seats based on good quality products, attendive service and reasonable prices. Alana made a new beginning, changing totally the style of the restaurant, serving unique dishes of traditional fare in a relaxing setting full of flowers creating the perfect backdrop for a dining experience highlighted by inspired cuisine and impeccable service. The restaurant has attracted both tourists and local people drawn to the superb food, charm and hospitality of its owners. The restaurant serves healthy Greek and Mediterranean cuisine, using products sourced locally, cooked with care and it has been established as one of the best restaurants in town, based on the customers’ reviews. The extensive a la carte menu includes favourites like lamb with artichokes, Cretan smoked pork “apaki” and stuffed vine leaves, chargrilled steaks and beef burgers, grilled vegetables with feta cheese and oregano, wild greens with tomato, garlic and potatoes. Unique home made Deserts are also offered.
My wife booked this after Reading great reviews on Trip Advisor and it terms of ambiance for a meal out it is right on the button. The combine a mixture of indoors/outdoors very well with the use of oversize parasols and discreet lighting. Seating is sufficient spread to allow for privacy and there are artistic touches you do not often see in Cretan Restaurants.
The menu has something for everyone and my wife’s King Prawns were a delight as was my starter of sliced pork.
The wine list is very good if a bit expensive for the area.
We both ordered Steak medium rare. I ordered the Rib Eye and my wife ordered the Fillet. I rue not ordering the fillet as my steak was cooked medium to well done. I hate over cooked steak and spent minutes debating whether to return it and ruin the night for my wife whose fillet was perfect. In the end I tolerated it. The fried potatoes are not chips but slices of potato fried. They arrived lukewarm but the staff apologised and replaced with freshly cooked.
Overall I would return but make a point of insisting they do not overcook my Steak.

Having for many years having been annual visitors to Rethymnon, this super family run restaurant has always been a real favourite. With a splendid 'night scene' over Rethymnon, extremely good food and wines, served in a stylish ambience, wehave never been dissatisfied. hilst certainly not the cheapest restaurant in Rethymnon - nor is it the most expensive. We always enjoy every single visit and make sure of a table by prebooking. Credit cards now accepted.

We liked this restaurant so much that we went twice. The owner was very pleasant and friendly. Great food and was followed by the usual small complimentary dessert and a couple of glasses of raki.

Just walking through Rethymon and found this place. Lovely little cafe overlooking sea. They have the best frozen yoghurt ice-cream I have ever had. I picked the pomegranate one really yummy sweet and sour and did not give that sugar feeling at the back of your throat. A huge bottle of water came to our table while we were waiting for our order. I thought very nice but I bet we have a cover charge for this. I was wrong it was complimentary and very welcome. Nice cafe with a spotless loo we will return.

We strive for what we love in a world that has forgotten the value of food in our lives. A plate of food, eaten in a restaurant or at home, the taste and the quality depends on the raw materials we use. With this as our principle and also that are forthright in any form of mass production of the raw materials, we have come and we have partnerships only with small local producers, who have the same philosophy as us. Our cuisine consists of raw materials without pesticides and fertilizers and from animals grown and fed in nature, as normally required in warehouses and not eating GM foods.
Amazing seafood, make sure you don't miss this restaurant. Set by the seaside with a beautiful view of La Fortezza. The location, the atmosphere and the food, a Triple Ace deal. Excellent prawns, best risotto, healthy organic quality food, beautifully styled dishes. Our Italian friends loved it too !!!

This was the most authentic Greek food we ate all of our 10 day holiday.
It was very good and very good value for money.
The friendly owner was very helpful and spoke excellent English.
It was difficult to find in the streets of the old town but google maps got us there!!
The only shame was that it rained and we had to sit inside not outside.

The restaurant is on the site where once stood a Venetian building which was linked to the residence on the south side through a doorway. It is believed that where the covered dining area stands was once a large storeroom and animal stable. The dining courtyard was indeed a courtyard and animal feeding area. In 2003 the chef and owner Harris Pavlakis decided to open the restaurant. The restaurant serves traditional local and greek dishes with local products and provides a friendly and romantic atmosphere. Our restaurant is certificated for Cretan Cuisine from The Greek Academy Of Taste and has participated in three contests of Traditional Cretan Cuisine in the last three years and has won twice the golden and once the silver medal.
I very seldom give anything 5 stars on TA but this place deserves it. We found it after a week of dismal meals in restaurants which other reviewers had raved about and we had begun to lose faith in TA reviews generally. This restaurant shone out of the gastronomic gloom! We went for an evening meal and it was delicious. The Cretan salad was outstanding as was the rabbit stifado. The staff were delightful as was the ambiance. The house wine was delicious. We enjoyed ourselves so much we went back for lunch the following day rather than risk another disappointment, and again had a fabulous meal. It was all in the taste, as it should be. The food was properly cooked and seasoned and generous use was made of local herbs. It sounds obvious but such tasty food seems to be a rarity there days. Whoever is in the kitchen can really cook. It's not easy to find, but seek it out!

In the Old Town of Rethymno, just a few meters from the harbor, waiting to charm you, is “Corina” restaurant, providing a beautiful dining space and a friendly atmoshere. Offering fine cuisine made with the freshest ingredients, including Cretan herbs and extra virgin olive oil, brought together with love and affection. Fresh fish, seafood and fine wine make your meal unique.
Had a truly enjoyable dining experience at Corina. The restaurant is situated in a quiet street in the Old Town. The decor is tasteful, the staff welcoming and the service friendly and efficient. The menu offers a selection of traditional Greek and Cretan dishes. The food arrived well presented and was perfectly cooked. The portions are truly generous. The Greek plate offers the opportunity to try a variety of traditional Greek foods.
Fine dining with generosity, friendly service and reasonable prices.

The location is fantastic down in the old port. Great varied menu. Staff are very helpful. The food is so fresh and served with pride. This is a fish restaurant. Salad was crispy fresh and the prawns were so lovely. Big portions too. Greek yoghurt on the house as so good as was the Raki.
Lovely memories of Rethymon.

Welcome to our beautiful garden and taste our local and mediterannean cuisine. We created a nice and friendly environment for you to enjoy a fine meal.
Can't rate this highly enough. We were made so welcome from the time we walked in, complimentary drink on arrival, finished with a complimentary desert and Raki to finish.. Starters were sublime (mussels and carpaccio) with freshly made garlic bread. Then some perfectly cooked mains, lamb shank and Dorado that fell of the bone and two medium rare steaks that had been well rested and the knife was barely needed. (As good as the steaks were, the mushrooms almost stole the show!!)
If we were here longer, I'd be back in a heartbeat. Thank you for an amazing evening, we had a great laugh, accompanied by great food and wine!!
