A meal at Sofias Café & Bar at Bardola is an exciting and quite different experience in the mountain village Geilo. In this charming atmosphere you are yourself a part of the surroundings and experience the chef and waiter giving free rein to their imagination. Enjoy our fantastic home-made food and be inspired by creative recipes. Sofias is also known for its sweet confectionery, tempting cakes and tasty bread from its own bakery. And of course we have an international coffee menu.
We stopped here on our drive up to Ulvik having looked for a place to refuel our tummies. We chose the grilled aubergine with tomato pesto, caramelised hazelnuts and baby potatoes. It was truly delicious! A hearty portion that was enough for us both to share with a side of ciabatta and aioli. It came with a big helping of salad and left us smiling. I think the dish may even have been vegan which was a great find in meatcentric Norway. I would visit again just to eat this again!

We visited this restaurant as a large group. The interior was beautifully decorated with lots of attention to detail. The style was traditional Norwegian with lots of interesting artefacts round every corner. Our starter of soup and rustic bread hit the spot and the main of trout, potatoes and vegetables was also very good. My favourite course was the sweet of cherries and cream, followed by coffee or tea. Considering the size of the party the service was superb and staff were very pleasant and efficient. Thank you for a great visit.

Bistro attached but separate to hotel
The Brasserie is part of Dr. Holm's Hotel in Geilo and has its own separate entrance.
My companion had the Prix Fixe meal which was scallops and langoustines, rack of lamb and creme brulee. I had coq au vin and creme brulee. The food was good and well presented. Prices of the wine are eye watering.

We drove in to Presholtseter and started the walk up to Hallingskarvet on the 2000 stairs laid by Nepali sherpas. The trail was excellent, though quite steep. We initially wanted to do the whole Presholtrunde, but when we reached Presholtskarvet it was so foggy that we could not find the path. We decided to go down the same way we came up in order not to get lost.
The way down was easy, and we ended the hike with rømmegrøt and waffles at Prestholtseter. Traditional Norwegian food. Seating both inside and outside. Good service and food. To be recommended, and the surrounding nature is amazing.

The food may not be spectacular, but it is perfectly okay and at a sensible price. The restaurant serves traditional Norwegian and international food, including Norwegian meatballs, burgers and daily specials, like pork and white sauce (flesk og duppe).
Being a picky eater is usually a problem in restaurants, but I could without problem find food here. However, not amazing food, but totally eatable.

Two adults and two children enjoyed Dr Holms burger and the children's burger. The interior isn't that interesting - look's like a tweaked Burger King - but at our table everyone was happy with the burgers and their chips. It contains all key ingredients and the bread seem to be made form whole grain flour. We've been there before and must concluded that these "flippers" knows their burger flipping business. I've read from other reviews that the other offerings are not that good - might be possible as the kitchen doesn't appear to be that advanced.

Don't let yourself be fooled. The only thing remotely Turkish about this restaurant is the name. The menu and food is classic Norwegian roadside diner (and that's not meant to be a compliment). You'll have to flip to page 4 on the menu to find something remotely resembling Turkish food, the rest is the usual mix of burgers, pizza and pasta, with a page of "oriental" dishes thrown in at the end. We ordered the Kebab in pita. The meat was plentiful but tasteless and drowned in dressing. You'll find a better kebab at any fast food corner in Oslo. The diner was large but empty, and the service was OK, but that's little consolation when the food is mind-numbingly dull.

This restaurant is bit away from the Geilo sentrum situated in the main road. Nicely decorated restaurant with friendly staff. We ordered two different dishes. The one in chili saus was tasty and good! The dish with sweat and sour sauce was average. The outside layer in the inbaked chicken was thick and it spoiled the taste. The prices are ok.

We had visited before and love the cinnamon rolls. We were excited when we learnt that they had started serving pizza. With great expectation we ordered 2 pizzas for take out.
We were very disappointed, the pizzas were drowning in parmesan cheese which ruined the pizza... Actually one of the few times we have not finished the pizza, as we frankly did not like it. It´s a pity, and hopefully just a miss that day.
Will come back for cinnamon rolls and get the pizza elsewhere.
