Location by small bay with a few other buildings, boats and beach. Typical beach bar and restaurant. We shared the mixed fish platter. The grilled fish were local and fresh as far we could tell although the crayfish (shrimp) were probably a Scottish import and the squid was slightly overcooked so not quite as tender as could be and mussels were a bit of an odd addition, but the relaxed eating out in the sun with cold wine more than compensated. Like all med restaurants fish is expensive. Worth trying if in the area but quite a long way from the more popular tourist spots.

Konoba Vrisnik

In the core of the sunny island of Hvar, in the small village of Vrisnik, there is the family run tavern Vrisnik. Its domestic ambiance and friendly humoured staff will make you wish to return each and every time again. Its blend of pleasant atmosphere and rich offer of Dalmatian cuisine, prepared in the traditional manner, will make your gastronomic experience memorable. Besides the wide choice of Dalmatian dishes, the Vrisnik Tavern offers you also grilled fish and meat specialties, various meals baked under the lid and homemade sweet delicacies, prepared by ancient family recipes. While enjoying the tranquillity of this place and the unique sound of the fire crackling in the heart, you will feel the scents of some ancient times. Welcome and enjoy your meal!

Overall, our experience with restaurants on the Dalmatian coast has been subpar. Usually basic fare, not creative at all, and quite often dubious quality and quantity at inflated prices. The goal seems to be just to rip off tourists without any regard for repeat business. Konoba Vrisnik is an exception, at least in terms of quality of the ingredients and the effort by the owner and the chef. I'd give it 5 stars if graded on a local curve, but 4 stars here for consistency when compared more broadly.
This is not haute cuisine, but well executed Mediterranean fare. The meats and fish are carefully selected and prepared in a simple, yet very tasty fashion. I strongly recommend calling a day in advance and asking what's the best and the freshest for baking "under peka" and order it. Octopus is probably the choicest delicacy prepared this way. Drink the great local wine, especially Plavac Mali (a cousin of Zinfandel/Primitivo).
The setting is inland, but very nice, especially around sunset. Because it is a bit out of the way, the prices are more reasonable, too. Most guests are seasoned Hvar visitors with very few accidental tourists, which one has to like. Members of our party knew the owner, so the service was great, but I can only hope that the same treatment is given to all-comers.

Restaurant Davor Zavala

Dear guests, the history of tourism and hospitality in the Barbic family dates back to 1972 when our grandparents, Kristo and Vinka Barbic, welcomed their first tourists. After them our parents Davor and Vilma Barbic cherished tradition of this work for many years as honorable and honest people. Today, after more than 40 years, the two of us brothers, Krišto and Grgo Barbic, with the help of our parents and the support of our families, strive to provide you with as better service as possible. Although the times are modern, as are we, we still respect the tradition. Feel comfortable and well received in our family restaurant!

If you would like to combine trip around the island and good food this place is for you. Located outside from the main tourist spots nearby Zavala this place offers really nice food at affordable (cheaper) prices than in Hvar.
We had pizza, pasta with shrimps and seafood, and pasta with truffle. Pasta was really delicious, homemade and fresh. Smell was fabulous, you can tell it is different right away and that it`s not from the freezer. There is a beach few steps away so you can enjoy it as well. Zavala is a very small place, there is more to see, but there are lots of winery's so try something on the way home.

I spent many a morning here drinking an espresso whilst my son ate ice cream.
Great location with views of the square, harbour and Mainland.
At night it seams to merge with the pizza place next door which is owned by the same family.
Ice cream is excellent, as is the coffee. Beer is ožujsko on tap (brilliant!)

Staff are utterly wonderful, multi lingual and lovely people to boot.
I wish I could transport this place back to the UK.
Highly recommended.

Flying Pig

BEEF BURGERS (100% beef) / WINGS / SPARE RIBS / PULLED PORK & CRAFT BEER from Croatian local craft Breweries. Flying Pig offers tasty food, charcoal grilled meat, and best Croatian craft beers. The ingredients we use are 100% local beef, chicken and pork meat. Pairing local craft beer with each dish is a must! We keep it short and madly delicious: additive free food, but highly addictive!

This independent burger restaurant has a prime location in the popular port area of Jelsa. It gets great reviews on TA, possibly due to the demographic of it's customers being younger and more active online than patrons of less exciting restaurants.
While I enjoy eating good burgers I rarely find it a memorable experience. I've eaten burgers from all kinds of places in many countries and none of them really improve on what I could make at home. The only place that stood out was the legendary JAKES in Seven Kings, sadly now closed down.
In general though I just don't get what all the fuss is about, ground beef in a bread roll, so what! In a country like Croatia which so much amazing cooking going on and incredible fresh ingredients, especially from the sea, why would I want to eat at a gourmet burger place? Well just to keep the kids happy I suppose!
Having said all that the burgers and fries here are all excellent, well cooked, delicious and served with style and charm. It's just like back home, how dull!
