This is the second time I eat in this restaurant, two years apart, and still have the same opinion. Both times I had Yacaré, which is the tail of a small alligator, and would have it again. It was really, really good. I had the Yacaré al Paquete, a white, soft meat, cooked wrapped in aluminum foil together with local spices, vegetables and noisette potatoes. It the weather permits, try the Terrace that faces the river. We took a rose wine with it and made a nice companion. A nice breeze might join you for the meal.

Like all restaurants in Formosa, good service was let down by bizarre, thoughtless food. The waiter was nice; polite, attentive (eventually) and hospitable, but I became a little suspicions when the food arrived within 5 minutes of ordering, along with a glass of wine full to the brim (as it turns out, this was a blessing).
The fish - sole - had essentially been deep fried and was smothered in a beefy brown sauce that was clearly intended for meat rather than fish. The potatoes (also apparently deep fried) which accompanied the fish were topped with some sort of cheese sprinkles, not even proper cheese. The whole thing was just wrong.
The ambience was fine, given there were only three of us in the whole restaurant (I ate at 8.30pm, while and most Argentines eat around 10pm) but I was a little put-off by the woman (cashier) at the far end of the restaurant who constantly surveyed everyone from her wide, elevated wooden desk. Reminded me of a headmistress making sure I was eating all my veg - if only there had been some.
Formoseños will tell you this is one of the best restaurants in town. Maybe they were having an off-day. Poor food, good service.

Lovely environment. On the second floor of Casa Grande Hotel. Great service. Delicious meals and lovely desserts.

Attentive staff, wonderful view (restaurant is perched on the coast, overlooking Paraguay) but the fish (surubí) was dry and tasteless. That said, I would revisit for a second chance.

I know it's a chain - and I hate chains - but Formosa has such little to offer that this cafe is an absolute diamond in the rough. Lovely staff, great coffee, delicious and HEALTHY food available (a rarity in northern Argentina to find a healthy salmon salad that's big enough for a main meal), plus it has wi-fi, is fully air conditioned (42 degrees outside when I visited) and is nicely designed. Give thanks for Cafe Martinez, Formosa.

Nuestro mozo super atento!
