Ukrainian restaurant, not far from the Gorkovskaya metrostation. Maybe not that easy to spot, but truly a great place to have dinner or lunch. Ukrainian food is somewhat different from Russian, so worth checking it out. The borsch - soup was really a top notch, best I´ve eaten. Staff was really polite and nice, and compliment vodkas on the house came before the maincourse and after dessert.. 5/5, please do go :)

Encouraged by many positive reviews decided to go for early dinner.
Generally quality of food was disappointing - I have tried gazpacho which was far away from soups I have tried before. Chicken was ok hit nothing special.
Service - excellent, really trying their best.
If you do not expect too much from food and don't want to pay a lot of money this place might be worth visiting.

Been twice, unless my conversion rate deceives me the steaks are 40 pounds to 80 pounds, is that right, 1400 - 3000 roubles as I recall,
The Rib eye I had was the fattiest piece of rubbish I had ever eaten. If I was paying I would have thrown it back.
The rest is pretty good though. Good service, good food, wine range . The desserts were fabulous.

Franky is just a few meters from the beginning of Bolshaya Pokrovka street (the uphill end, near Gorky Square) and is one of the two very good cocktail bars in Nizhny, the other being the Beriozka bar just a few meters around the corner from Franky. Which you prefer depends upon the mood you want.
Franky is an upscale, calm place with decor like a fine club. Oil painting portraits of famous cocktail culture personalities like Hemingway and Sinatra are on the walls. It's a great place for conversation. Pavel, the former head barman from Beriozka now can be counted up on to mix the best Manhattans in Nizhny at Franky. For a truly special Manhattan, choose the version using Utah's High West Double Rye whiskey.
I've never eaten here so I can't comment on the food, but it is a perfect place for grown ups to visit on a classy date. Beriozka is great if you want more of a night club scene with nonstop music but for conversation and great, expertly-made cocktails without all the ruckus in the background this is the place.

Хорошая идея организовать кафе на выходе из огромного магазина. Вероятность того, что люди уже подустали и проголодались высока, поэтому кафе пользуется такой популярностью. Здесь много народу, все толпятся, снуют, шумно. Заведение похоже на обычную столовую с самообсуживанием, подносами, движущейся очередью и кассами на выходе. Еды много, разнообразная. Можно взять диетические вареные овощи, а можно оригинальные фрикадельки с сладким ягодным соусом. Столики тоже столовские, в стиле Икеа. Из-за того, что люди покупают в Икеа огромные вещи, а потом идут с ними в это кафе,создается впечатление, что ты на вокзале. В общем, кафе в стиле Икеа - только функционал, без излишеств. Принимаются банковские карты.

Обычно, когда приезжаешь в МЕГУ - это надолго. И требуется перекус.
От добра добра не ищут: старая, проверенная в поездках и в полётах по России "Шоколадница" выручит всегда; и в этой - такой же неплохой кофе, такие же, как и во всех кофейнях сети, вкусные десерты.
Фуд-корт в самом центре здания; мимо не проскочить.
И не проскакивайте...

We met with some friends in the eveing for a few drinks and some small food.
The selection is big and the food menu as well looks good.
The drinks and food is well presented and, even more important, very tasty. The bar/restaurant is in the middle of the old town and just a few minutes from the kremlin away. It's a great place to escape the cold weather outside.!

«Expedition» - restaurant of Northern Cuisine: The largest of all the existing restaurants "Expedition" in Russia. Open-view restaurant on the Volga and the Oka, an over whelming hall with 128 seats, several Playgrounds and a mezzanine floor. Only Nizhny Novgorod restaurant has an area for active leisure, where you can dance. This restaurant was fantastic. My husband and I went here based on reviews, and they were spot on.
The decoration follows the "Ekspeditsia" idea - everything looks rough and outdoorsy, lots of maps. But the tables are nice and the chairs are quite comfortable.
The food is fantastic. First, they brought us a bread basket. I have lived in Russia for 6 years and this is the FIRST TIME I have received a free bread basket. The braed was delicious. We drank their homemade mors - both cranberry and bilberry and it was also great. Over the course of our four day stay we ate here twice, and therefore managed to eat quite a lot. Therefore, we can personally recommend: the deer sausage, duck salad, wild boar, wildfowl and deer burger.
The only minus is thinking too hard about what you are eating. I couldn't order the moose, even though it's probably also great.
