Esquel is a town in the northwest of Chubut Province in Argentine Patagonia. It is located in Futaleufú Department, of which it is the government seat. The town's name derives from one of two Tehuelche words. One meaning "marsh" and the other meaning "land of burrs", which refers to the many thorny plants including the pimpinella and other herbaceous plants whose fruits, when ripe turn into prickly burrs that stick to the animals' skins and wool or people's clothes as a way of propagation.

Ate here for lunch with a group while passing through Esquel. I had the lasagna which was good with a large portion. Other pasta dishes which were ordered by the group were also large and everyone seemed to enjoy them. Others ordered pizza. Service was good.

Confortable and cozy, and special kind attention- Regional and argentinian food. Open from 8 to 24 hs. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner is full served.
We have found it hard to find good food in Esquel, and unfortunately las Bayas was no exception.
To be fair, My partner did enjoy his risotto but my chicken was so overcooked I literally had to saw it with my knife.
The waitress spent most of the time at a spare table looking at Facebook and didn't approach as at all apart from placing the food on the table then finally clearing The plates when we had to call out over the music to get attention.
It's a shame because the place looks really nice but it was a major disappointment. We've decided we'd much prefer to grab some awesome takeaway empanadas from the shop next to cheers. We recommend you do the same!

Forget non-existing decor, uncomfortable chairs and endless waits for the food to be ready. Once in your table, you will try some of the best Argentinean beef available, grilled to perfection. Skip the lamb (they grill it for a very short time, so it is not as tender), and go straight to the bife de chorizo, or the ojo de bife (NY Strip/Ribeye steaks) and learn why so many Argentineans look down at vegans.

On holiday in Argentina for a month and fancied a break from parillas which we love. Decided pasta would fit the bill and this place seemed popular with locals. We had the starter of smoked deer, boar, trout and cheese which was good. Unfortunately while still finishing this, the mains arrived. I could possibly have forgiven their premature arrival had they been any good, but what a disappointment. I had the cannelloni with bolognese, cheese and pesto sauce. Pasta was bland and soggy, overstuffed with a very dry cheese. Bolognese sauce was tasteless. I have tasted better supermarket ready meals! My husband had lasagne and this was equally bad. A decent wine list was the only saving grace. And they only accept cash, no cards.

They only do milanesa sandwiches and ham and cheese, but the milanesa sandwiches are absolutely the best we've ever tasted. No doubt about it.

Pleasant train trip of 1 hour each way in original carriages pulled by one of the original engines. Little bit expenive at foreigner's price. If it is running and you can get there then go to the trip at El maiten as well.

There is no pizza compared to Fitzroya 's. I've been eating pizza all my life and thought I've tasted all, but I was so wrong... I would go back to Esquel mainly because of Fitzroya.
Ingredients were premium and delicious.
The place is not very inviting nor modern, but that is completely unimportant compared to the product.
Attention is welcoming and warm.
If you happen to be in Esquel, don't miss Fitzroya

Make sure you stay away from this place, looks nice, but when we entered (only 4 customers in the restaurant), the waitress was looking at us like "this is not my lucky day, more customers", in addition the food was very poor.

On the plus side, this restaurant had friendly service, and opened early to accommodate us, since we aren't accustomed to dining at 2100h (when they normally open.) They also had a great selection of reasonably priced wines, and we made a couple of discoveries in the wine department. However, the food was very disappointing. We had the mixed parrillada, and it was mostly organ meats. The portions of actual steak were not good quality - and considering the absolutely superb Argentinian beef we've had elsewhere on this trip, we were surprised. We also asked for everything to be cooked 'Al Punto' (medium rare) and everything was well-done - inexcusable perhaps in a restaurant specializing in grilling. Willing to put this one down to maybe an off-night, as they got very busy after their early opening, but most of our meal ended up as doggie treats.
