Blue Smoke

Reviewed By Chris H - Grand Rapids, Michigan

The atmosphere is very modern. It's a very comfortable feel to the place.

I ordered some Pulled Pork, Chicken Wings, Baked Beans, Johnny Cakes, and Roasted Corn Slaw. The pulled pork was good. Not the best I've had but above average for sure. The Wings were ok. Not above or below average. I wouldn't order again. The Baked Beans were horrible. Worst I've ever had. How do you mess up Baked Beans. The Johnny Cakes were horrible. Ate 2 bites and threw away the rest. Didn't taste anything like cornbread. The Corn Slaw was good, but nothing I'd order again. Lastly the BBQ sauce was one of the worst I've ever tried. How do people think this is awesome bbq.

The service was very good.

Overall I'd give 2 stars. I would give 1 but the pulled pork, good service, and nice building save them. Would I return? Haha No Never. Horrible baked beans, really!

We have a family cabin in town, and coming from the "big" city, it's one thing I desire when I'm there - coffee. I was super excited to see a coffee shop at the corner of Main Street when we got there this year. I'm told they had just opened 2 weeks prior. It was clean, huge bright windows, and super friendly. The Americano I ordered (with a splash of soy milk) was a very hot, although a bit bitter. Prices were the same as Starbucks downstate ($2.50 for 12 oz). They offered me a loyalty punch card, but I turned it down since we just aren't there enough to make use of it.
(I hope they took me up on my suggestion to punch the next guy twice.) Not sure if a town the size of EJ can support this endeavor or not, but I'm sure hoping so.

My 2nd time to Cafe Sante and I still love this little European gem in N. Michigan! Our server, Zok, was fabulous!! I ordered breakfast for lunch - pistachio butter pancakes with fruit- a tasty treat! My
husband ordered chicken Alfredo - good, but he said it could use a little more flavor. The hot cocoa was excellent - they use Belgium chocolate~ of course it would be good! *We also love that the music is
Not too loud, but subtlety in the background.

Ordered the Broiled Walleye with Lime Remoulade Sauce.
It came with Uncle Ben's wild rice and some slaw. Really disappointed the rice wasn't even homemade.
The presentation was awful.... not a sprig of parsley or lemon, or garnish of any kind. Very bland.
Definitely ordered the wrong thing.

Kilwin's Chocolate and Ice Cream

Great stop for all ages but particularly for those travelling with children. Kilwin's has it all: 47 flavors, truffles, fudge, cookies and various other candies. And this Petoskey, MI based business gives free tour of its chocolate factory at its Petoskey location. A bit pricey, but a great place to stop to beat the summer heat or after an evening of music or theater at Bay View.

Take advantage of your good luck in finding an authentic French patisserie in the Midwest. Featherlight crepes with caramel, a Croque Monsieur even tastier than you can find in Paris, buttery brioche loaves, etc. etc. The cookies and muffins are lovely as well but my gosh, leave your comfort zone and grab a pastry or a bread---it doesn't get better than this without a passport.

In this tiny lake side town called East Jordan there is a place called Sodalicious that indeed sells incredibly delicious homemade ice cream! A dozen or more varieties served in all shapes and sizes with toppings galore. The Chocolate Malt is an absolute must and worth taking a break for to sip it all in! The small shop is at the beginning of the high street within walking distance from the marina with some seating inside. Park your boat, jetski or kayak you will come back for more!

We were so happy with our meals so much that we are going back for dinner tonight!!!

We always come to The Front Porch to eat when staying on Torch Lake during the summer. Such nice folks here. This is a non profit ministry with suggested donation prices on your ticket. Pay more and help feed the needy or pay less if you need to. All prices on the menu are suggested donations. We had a great diner type meal for breakfast. My favorite part is the Rocky Top cherry jelly they serve with their toast. So good. We even went to Rocky Top to buy more. Great place to eat up north!

Alpine Chocolate Haus

Reviewed By Davidamy617 - Novi, Michigan

We have one of these close to home, but we were traveling with some newbies. My niece never had chocolate covered potato chips. She loved them. My other niece found her favorite candy, too. I don't have a sweet tooth, but LOVED their chocolate lavender truffles. I am very sad that they don't carry them any longer. But if you have a sweet tooth, this is where you want to be!
