As we had reservations for eight or nine, we were promptly seated and attended to by a really fun waitress. The food portions were extraordinarily large. I would have shared my dish rather than have to discard more than half. Only a few people complete the entrees because we all wanted to try dessert. The molten cake we ordered (learned our lesson on portion size) was delicious but the cake did not ooze when cut.

J. Gilbert's is an "upscale casual" steakhouse serving prime-aged beef cooked over a mesquite wood-fired grill. Guests enjoy various cuts of steak, fresh seafood (including award-winning crab cakes) & other house made favorites like the Maytag Blue potato chips & chocolate velvet cake. The cozy atmosphere includes fire side dining, rich wood, brick & soft lighting where you can enjoy dinner for two or host a large party. The extensive martini & wine list offers the perfect compliment to an excellent meal delivered with attentive service. J. Gilbert's is open for dinner seven days a week, beginning at 4pm. Reservations are highly recommended.
We ate here again and they revised their 1/2 price wine on Mondays and now I will give this restaurant an EXCELLENT review. The food is awesome and the staff is professional and courteous. My favorite restaurant in Glastonbury.

I read some good reviews of this restaurant and wanted to stop in to try it out. The buffet on Saturday afternoon was delicious with several choices. I would recommend this restaurant as it is one of the best Indian food spots in the greater Hartford area.

I love a good lobster roll. Decided to try Mickey's for the first time and really enjoyed my lobster roll "CT style" aka hot and buttery. It's my preferred way to eat lobster rolls. Living in the Hartford area, there aren't a lot of options for good ones. I can now add Mickey' s to my short list.
On Thursday you can save five dollars when you buy two. I'm looking forward to going back and trying other seafood menu items.
A plus is they take credit cards, which isn't always the case with lobster roll spots .

Modern American cuisine..All fish served wild caught, never frozen.. All beef products grass fed . ( Piedmontese beef line from Nebraska.. All vegetable hand sourced from Exec chef Lucas Kyriakos..
My husband and I had dinner here on a Friday night and it was wonderful! From the atmosphere to the service and food, everything was fantastic. We especially enjoyed the chili nachos appetizer, which was enough for several to share. The salmon was expertly prepared with a nice brown crust and perfectly cooked interior. We even splurged on dessert and the tiramisu was absolutely worth it! We will definitely be returning soon!!

There are nearly 60 Capital Grilles. Whether those away from D.C. are franchises or satellites of the original, the Hartford location suffers the same problem with any clone. Dilution and approximation. To be fair, this is primarily a steak and chop house, and we had our minds on seafood. There were four or five seafood choices, but not their strength.
The ambiance is certainly pleasant and "upscale". Our waiter was personable and perhaps a little overworked. There were a couple of annoying flaws that muted our enthusiasm for a generally well prepared meal.
The wine list on an I-Pad may appeal to millenials and generation X-ers, I suppose it makes it easier and cleaner to update. I can live with it. Even the 300% mark-up on a bottle of Pouilly-Fuisse. is a minor annoyance. But a restaurant needs to decide-are they going to serve the wine or have the customer do it. I find it "unsat" when a purportedly high end restaurant pours the first glass, then puts the ice cooler out of reach and then forgets about it.
The chief hiccup of the evening was timing. We allowed 2 and a quarter hours for a leisurely dinner before a show. We needed over 2 hours for a straight forward order of salads, mains and a shared dessert. Why it took an hour to bring out the salmon in a fairly uncrowded restaurant is an awkward mystery. We ordered creamed spinach as a classic side, and it was very good.
The salads, by the way, were well crafted. The salmon was of good quality and very simply prepared. Perhaps a little too simple. The coconut cream pie was rather bland and forgettable. We should have heeded the waiter's suggestion of ordering cheesecake.
No doubt, you can get a very good steak here. The wine selection is fairly long, but not particularly interesting.
The restaurant was convenient for where we needed to be. At its core, assuming there is one, it is a chain restaurant. Expense does not equal excellence. This is a far cry from "an original" steakhouse of genuine character. I wouldn't call this "fine dining", except it costs as much.

Took my daughter here today, she has never had Vietnamese food. She really enjoyed it. They do not have a menu here, they have a board on the wall behind the counter and it's the same food every week, just changes for different days. Today they had Pho steak or shrimp or both. We both has the steak. It comes in medium, large and something bigger than that. The waiter was talking so fast i honestly couldn't understand him and the servings are so large that I knew I wanted the smallest one, so I just stopped listening after medium. So far this is the second best Pho restaurant I've been to. Just remember to be patient with them. They make each persons food to order. Will definitely go back.

The crown jewel of the Hartford, Connecticut dining scene, Max Downtown has been serving its guests for over 21 years and remains a fan favorite. After a top-to-bottom renovation in the summer of 2017, the restaurant has never looked (or tasted) better.
Overall the food was exactly what you'd expect from a quality steakhouse. The only hiccup was that the server stopped by right after the menus were dropped and then I didn't see him for 15-20 minutes... Finally appeared when a manager stopped by to ask how things were. It was Restaurant Week (though I didn't order off the RW menu), so they may have been busier than expected.

We heard on T.V. that for National Clam Chowder day today Max was selling their clam chowder for $4 a bowl and donating the proceeds. So we stopped in for a quick bowl at the bar. The chowder was delicious with lots of tender fresh clams and not too many potatoes. Creamy broth was spiked with a hint of Tabasco for a slight kick. Really good. We didn't want drinks, just the chowder, but the service was still attentive and the bartender did not make us feel awkward about not ordering drinks. While we were there we took note of the nice brunch menu and vowed to return when we are looking for a full meal.

Dropped in and ordered out Carl's reggae chicken on my birthday, since a co-worker had highly suggested it. It had the taste of sweet BBQ with the heat and flavor of jerk. They served it with a huge serving of rice mixed with seasoned beans, and a buttery cabbage side, that I really enjoyed. The place is not for those looking for a place to sit and eat. It is absolutely take-out. You can't beat the price for what you get, and the people are really nice. *As a side note, there is a package store next door that I ambled into as I was waiting for my takeout. The guy in there really brightened an otherwise less than stellar birthday. I won't bore you with the details, but I will go back there too.
