We all had wonderful dinners. The ribs were exceptional as was the baked shrimp In addition to a soup or salad guests may partake in an excellent salad bar, which contains potato, bean salads, cole slaw cheese and much more. The service was delightful

The cappuccino and cinnamon roll were excellent. Everything there is very good. Friendly service and great atmosphere. Place is a real gem.

This is a friendly spot in the center of Dowagiac, Mich. in the southwestern part of Michigan. The food is excellent, and the atmosphere is friendly. Trish, the bartender is excellent - she remembers what everyone likes and manages to be attentive to all the people sitting at the bar, serving everything with a smile. Great place to check out if you are in the area!

I was impressed with the 2 page menu of just ice cream desserts, a malt/soda menu, and one for lunch items. Everything was very inexpensive. I had an ice cream treat that was presented in a nice glass sundae bowl. They also had their own homemade chocolates for sale. Decor looked like it would have 50 years ago.

Happy with the visit after 45 minute drive, Stopped after dinner at The Strand. SLB does not have a lake view, but waitress we had was knowledgeable about the beers, and the selection was impressive. Bigger inside than the pics on the website indicate, plus it does have a beer garden, though not a huge one. Did not eat, but beer prices more reasonable and in line with good craft brew pubs. Will go back. .

Stopped for business lunch - we didn't expect excellent food. But at least tasty and edible - didn't get either.
The service was super slow despite not being full. Everything was deep fried and tasted like the oil it was cooked in was old.
Salad bar was ok, some things were at least fresh. Soup was fatty and tasteless.
Wouldn't eat here again.

We visited here on a motorcycle trip and although they did not have toasted cheese I ordered the ham and cheese without the ham and it was delicious. Also if you visit Dowagiac on Monday this is one of the very few places open.

Average food, average service, average prices. Food is actually hit or miss. Burger was ok, chicken salad was bland. Served with soup, which is a nice touch, and the staff was cheerful, so that's a plus.

Great local bar / pub / saloon with a tidy 'al fresco' patio. Friendly staff & atmosphere. Many 'regular' patrons. Usually live bands on the weekends, so if you want entertainment with a very good meal - do the weekend. If you are with friends and want it conversation friendly - go any time during the week. A small salad bar - very modest, but those who desire a side salad will be OK. Super local ambience - lots of fishing lures (Wounded Minnow - get it?) and a fine selection of brews. Always reliable for a fine burger or a very generous Fish 'n Chips meal. The Chicken Caesar Salad is well-received. Fine for lunch or dinner.

On the whole, we had a very pleasant dinner. My steak, mashed potatoes and caesar salad came with large portions and tasted good. The server was friendly and attentive.
The menu was peculiar lots of steaks, but with no seafood that wasn't fried. I don't think there were any pork or lamb entrees and the only poultry dish was chicken fingers.
