Our RV group, visiting Douglas for the Cochise County Fair, decided to go into town for a meal. Our wagon master found El Chef and made our reservation for 18 people ahead of time. I was very impressed with this little mom & pop restaurant's ability to serve such a large group with such efficiency. One server handled the whole group and nobody had to wait very long and I don't know of a single mix-up of an order. The food was out of this world. Mexican food can be hit or miss, and I must tell you that El Chef was definitely a hit. It was obvious that the kitchen was staffed with people who know how to prepare authentic Mexican food.

Very friendly staff, great ice cream. I had the chocolate sundae this time. My kids and wife had blizzards. Very comfortable outside seating is the best when the weather permits. They also have a few tables inside if you prefer.

Went here with five other friends while visiting Mexico. It's right in front of the Douglas Walmart, so it's convenient to find and access. Not very busy, and the waitress was super sweet. The food was tasty, and the cocida stew my friends ordered was quite a generous serving. My daughter and I loved the grilled burritos. The bathrooms were super clean, and the ladies room smelled really good, like jasmine, but there was an additional sink out in the open between the two rooms and we thought that was unique. The only two downsides to this place were 1. the chairs were beautiful, but slightly uncomfortable, and 2. after we actually placed our order, it took nearly 25 min to get our food to the table. Other than that, however, I really liked this place and would eat here again for sure when I'm back in Douglas.

We made reservation to have dinner for Mothers Day. Instead of telling us when we made the reservation that they will only be serving 3 specials (Not really specials), as the prices were the normal menu prices. Not everyone likes to eat from 3 selections. We have eaten here many times, but this time was not like that past. Service was good, but the meals were not. Steak was half portions with potato. Very disappointed overall. Probably will go somewhere else next time.

Nice little tavern off the lobby of the historic Gadsden Hotel. A great place to unwind a little before heading upstairs.

I was surprised to see so many meat-free entrees in a traditional Mexican restaurant. I really wanted to order the potato tacos, but I love chili rellenos, so that's what I ordered. DH had the cheese enchiladas. The cafe is sunny, clean and cute. Our server was very attentive. The chips and salsa are complimentary; I don't care for a thin salsa so it was just okay. The enchiladas were filling and good. I didn't realize that my chili rellenos would be breaded, a downside, but still very good. Both came with rice and beans. We will visit again

Mexican/American Food Gourmet approved (Dec .96) Great food With Low Prices!! Come on by or call and place your order
Tucked away in a nondescript seemingly run down building in the old downtown part of Douglas, AZ, this place stands out. Their Mexican food is served hot with just the right amount of heat to let you know you want water. Like so many places in now defunct mining towns you have to search out the really good places; this is such a place.

As soon as you walk in, the aroma makes your mouth water....fresh baked goods daily, homemade soups, salads, sandwiches - food available for vegans, vegetarians, and carnivores. Nice artwork and the artist also works there, meet the owner - Alex Boneo - who always has a smile and prepares all the foods. Very clean, nice decor... a must when in Douglas or passing through

The meat tastes just right and the fries are good.
They have a self serve condiment bar with cucumbers, salsas, limes, and other things.
They charge for soft drink refills out of the soda fountain.
They have their own house brand flour tortillas you can purchase to take home.
The prices are a little high compared to other local burrito shops around town.
The staff is friendly and the restaurant is mainly family operated.
