The building that now houses Butterfields Cafe started out as Knapp’s Butcher Shop at the turn of the century and was Nightingale’s General Store until the 1960s. George Merich, who had purchased and was renovating another rural property in the foothills of the Catskills, would pass by the derelict, flood-ravaged property every weekend and thought, Someone should save that building. After 10 years of renovating his home, he bought this building despite his naysaying friends and ignoring offers to tear it down, envisioning a homey, comfortable cafe with home-cooked meals, top-notch coffee and baked goods, and outdoor seating during the peak summer months when visitors would come to the Southern Tier to enjoy its natural beauty and outdoor sports. An architectural lighting designer by trade, George changed careers and realized his dream when he opened the lovingly restored Butterfields in 2011 after a three-year renovation. Featuring breakfast and lunch, Manhattan bagels, the best coffee for miles around, themed monthly dinners, and a brand-new Sunday brunch, George has created a unique oasis for locals and travelers alike. Butterfields can host your private party or cater your special event. Ask about our vacation rental apartment located one block from some of the best trout fishing in the northeast.
Very cute breakfast place that has an outside deck to eat on. Great brunch. The hazelnut blackberry French toast was outstanding. The omelet was also good and the hash brown potatoes had a little kick and were great. Highly recommend and a hidden gem.

A little place in a rural part of NY. Absolutely not fancy. Open basically for breakfast and lunch and few nights for dinner. Good tasty solid food, friendly staff. Don't have high expectations. However, you will have a pretty good idea of what you'll get and will probably be very satisfied.

My fishing buddy and I ate dinner here one evening. We both opted for the Yankee pot roast dinner. The pot roast was fragrant, flavorful and fork-tender. It was accompanied by corn, homemade mashed potatoes and a rich, dark gravy. We ordered two salads on the side and they were large, fresh and crisp and had a good mix of greens and other veggies. A very good meal at a very reasonable price.

Staying at the Deposit Motel, we asked Pete, the Motel owner, where we could have dinner. (Butterfields Cafe, next door to the Motel closed at 8pm.) Pete suggested Koo Koose Grille, and even told me to have the fish and chips. A diverse menu, there were several tempting selections and in a party of six, we each had different entrees. I did have the fish and chips which were excellent. (While we were there, Pete came in to pick up the fish and chips 'to go' that he had ordered.) Everyone I was with enjoyed their meal. I found the prices to be reasonable, service to be attentive, and the atmosphere to be purely local.

If you are craving amazing Italian food made by an Italian family that puts their hearts and souls into what they create for their customers PLEASE go to Little Italy on Front Street in Deposit NY. Little Italy is more than great pizza. They have a great menu. Lunch and dinner specials and now that the cooler weather in on its way some of the best homemade soup you could ask for. I love to get their wonderful garlic knots to have as my bread instead of crackers! I have not been disappointed yet with any of the meals I have had there. Lunch or dinner you can't go wrong with anything you order. Yes the pizza is amazing but don't forget Little Italy is more than great pizza!

Staff were super friendly, the food was your average Chinese fare, though the broccoli in garlic sauce was better than expected, definitely a dish to recommend. Egg rolls that come with the combination menus are a bit dry and unexciting. Great value for money- order less than you think you'll want!
Not bad for small town takeaway.

I have eaten here and ordered out twice over two years when I have visited the area for fishing. The pizza and Italian sandwiches have been better than good both times, and the staff has adjusted preparation to individual tastes and needs. The restaurant is on the main street of a quaint town with easy parking on the street.

This is your normal fast food place with two exceptions, the place was very clean and neat (even the bathrooms and surroundings grounds) and the service is quick, polite and friendly, they even stay open late. This is a rural place in upstate NY but most of its people are very nice (it's a little bit better than the norm).

We ate breakfast here. I had a large breakfast for an affordable price. My egg was cooked perfectly as was my bacon. It was a good home-cooked meal. My coffee was excellent!!! The service was fast and friendly. I knew it was a good restaurant when I overheard customers thanking the cook on their way out!

We love Katie's Kafe for their homemade soups, good sandwiches and excellent baked goods. She also sells local honey as her father is a beekeeper. Friendly and homey atmosphere.
