My work took me to Creson several times this past summer. South central Iowa is scorching hot during mid-summer. This DQ became my favorite watering hole. The operation is family owned and operated. obviously the managers hire the local high school talent to staff the counters and work the kitchen. In addition to the standard DQ offerings they also have locally produced pastries, cakes and cookies. The decor is DQ with high school team pictures dominating the wall space. A great place to literally chill out on a scorching hot afternoon.

The locals made this place so fun. The food was ok, I had the chicken fried steak which was fine. But the Karaoke lady was the hit of the night.... You will have to go yourself to get the full effect!

We're moving to Creston (from Albuquerque, NM) in about 5 weeks. Winter and humidity are a little concerning for me, since the former is mild and the latter is practically non-existent in Albuquerque! But one thing that doesn't concern me is a good, clean, local place to have a meal, and Creston Family Restaurant is all that. And being served breakfast by a server named C.J. made it fun, too.

The Wallace Farm is on the Henry Wallace Road out East of Orient, Iowa. It has a traditional white wooden farmstead you can visit. You can eat a specially prepared dinner with other guests. You need to make reservations in advance. The same garden produce is used for similar special dinners at the Wallace House in the Sherman Hill Historical District in Des Moines. You can learn about the history of the various successful Wallace family members who were I prominent in agriculture and politics in Iowa.

We have eaten at the Pizza Ranch in Creston on multiple occasions. We have had several extended family gatherings there & really like being able to reserve a private room for our group. It is great to be able to have food immediately for the younger kids! The food has always been well stocked, and you can order pizza of choice & they will bring you the requested number of pieces which is nice if you have someone that needs or desires something specific. We have always really liked the chicken & accompanying sides. They work hard to keep dishes & tables cleared & we have not had to wait more than a few minutes in line. We like that the beverage is included in the buffet price. This is not a fancy place, but has a decent variety and good quality food.

I actually worked here in the late 70's when it was a Lil' Duffer. The exterior is close to the same. Knowing the inns and outs of the location, it's clean and maintained. The food is quick and prepared to order. Staff is generally good.

My wife and I had a great visit in July 2015 and had reason to be back in the general area. Although a bit out of our way, we decided to spend the night in Creston so we could enjoy another Greek Salad for dinner. The gyro meat is fantastic and the service was once again friendly. If we're ever back in the area, we'll be sure to enjoy another Greek Salad from A&G.
