This place is a well kept secret. It is situated in Couvin and has a B&B as well as a bistrot and a restaurant (Absinthe) and in addition there is a wine shop with fabulous wines. The food is super, with respect for high quality ingredients, the cooking is inventive without being overly complex. The ownder is very knowledgeable about wines and is absolutely charming.

We had dinner here and three of four in the company chose the recommended fondue bourguignonne, consisting of beef and poultry. The meat was very fresh and was accompanied by good salad and very nice fries. The trout à l'Ardennaise was delicious. Desserts (chocolat mousse and crème brûlée) were excellent. The house wine was very tasty and matched well with the food. Overall a very good experience for a nice price.

A great place to stop. Beer is brewed on the premises and you can actually see the machinery from the dining room. We shared a sample selection of beer and took 3 of them home with us from the shop. We didn't have the food this time but it smelled really good!

La Bonne Auberge

Reviewed By sherrrrry - Flagler Beach, Florida

We happened on this lovely town after visiting the delightful Neptune Caves. The friendly fellow suggested La Bonne Auberge when we asked for something other than "fast food" for lunch. A block away, we enjoyed a very nice meal, in a higher end ambiance, with good service.
Although our waiter did not speak one word of English, we managed to order a steak with a rich blue cheese sauce. The dish was called Filet Mignon, but it was not the buttery thick cut we expect in the USA. We generally find that beef is not as good in Europe as it is in the US. Saying that, it was cooked perfectly, although it wasn't the most tender, and much larger than expected. The sauce was incredible. . . we used it on the Salmon Brochette (ordered by my husband) and the mixed salad.
Highly recommended!

It has been a long time since I have had such good food. Language (English) was a small issue but we were able to navigate the menu and was rewarded by fabulous food. I especially loved the smoked salmon. Find your way to this restaurant and be rewarded with a great meal.

After shopping at their affiliated store, stopped here for lunch. Very good beer and food, great service - we wish we could have stayed much longer, but had to drive on. Both the store and this brasserie are well worth a visit if you're in the area.

During a day trip to Chimay we were told to have lunch at this restaurant. The short trip outside the city was a full success. Their steaks ''Sauce Roquefort" & "Au Champions" were just great.
You should have a local CHIMAY Beer (3 different types) with that. NO need to have wine!
Price list for all is very reasonable! Excellent value for money. Just try it out yourself and comment .... .

La Thierache

I have been many times to la Thierache and a review is in order.
First I have to say that this is not a place for people on a diet, portions are large and generous use is made of butter and cream. The owner was a butcher in a former life and it shows on the menu: You can get here first class andouillette, riz de veau, jambonneau steaks and entrecotes of various sizes. Ingredients often come from local suppiers.
There is a good wine-list and the beer offerings are exactly what you require. Desserts are delicious.
Seating is not very comfortable and the tables are a bit small; ask for the round table if you are a party of 4.
Prices are midrange and the service is OK.

La Table de Nanou

Went there with friends because it had a good review. The interior is ok but the reception was a bit sad. The host was rarely in the restaurant but mostly in the kitchen. Although the starter was really nice, the main (venison) was sadly overcooked and the vegetables were cold. The desserts were not a success. No one in the entire restaurant (10 tables of which, on a Saturday night, 4 were occupied) had coffee. Although the price is very democraric, the qualiry is lacking.
