About 50 miles northwest of Panama City, Colón is home to the northern gateway of the Panama Canal as well as Afro-Caribbean descendants of those workers who helped build the canal in the early 20th century. Colón’s greatest claim to fame—and the main reason visitors come here—is the Colón Free Zone, a massive shopping showroom where wholesalers, retailers and the general public shop. You’ll also find Colón 2000, a cruise-ship port with restaurants, a supermarket, and shops selling duty-free merchandise. The most scenic way to travel here is by way of the restored Panama Canal Railway, featuring elegant, wood-paneled and carpeted rail cars (based on 19th century designs) that takes you on a hour-long journey through the rainforest to Colón.

I have only been there for parties (weddings, birthdays etc) and also for bussines and other meetings where the menu is previously chosen, the food is maybe the best in Colon, where there are not so many restaurants this tipe, they take their job seriously, everything there is really well organized and beautifully decorated.

Grand cafe has been around for many years now and I can say it's one of the most popular Lebanese food places. Indoor and outdoor Seating , good variety , good quality good , decent service. Meat and vegetarian dishes make it an excellent choice of place in a mixed group . Their dessert is good too.

The Dock offers a casual atmosphere with great food. From tender steak to a BLT Sandwich, from salads to pasta. We have a daily lunch special and Happy Hour from 5pm to 7pm every day but Sundays. We are open daily from 8:00am to 9:00 pm.
Well, in reality there is a restaurant inside the Agua Clara visitor center (not always open), don’t know for Gatun locks, beside these, the next ones are located in former Ft. Davis or even further away…
The location is inside former Ft. Sherman (is necessary to pass an old checkpoint) and drive through streets of abandoned military barracks (some scenes of a Bond movie were filmed here) really pity of this slovenliness because this used to be a beautiful area with a nice beach (Shimmey beach).
Once arrived everybody made a phew… one would never imagine a yacht club and a functioning hidden restaurant after driving through such a solitary road.
The restaurant has indoors and outdoors; menu had few choices not long. We decided to have a local dish, the “Costa Arriba” ($19.80) which is an octopus dish with coconut rice, very Caribbean dish. The rice had very subtle coconut taste (almost none) served with supposed boiled vegetables (they were still raw), the octopus was very salty… for kids, chicken nuggets with fries ($7.90 industrial tasted like frozen goods bought at the supermarket and prepared at home); soft drinks at $2.75. Food quality below average, just to fill the stomach because there are almost none other choices in the area. Service is not the most fast and efficient, takes long time, is carefree and careless…
A place to stop for lunch and to kill several birds with one stone; Gatun and Agua Clara locks, San Lorenzo ruins and if knew that area during the Zonian era, see what remained of the Gatun spillway, Gatun beach, Tarpon Club etc.. One thing in this side that cannot be experienced at the Pacific side; driving through the locks complete of traffic lights with cars and ships traffic jam!

It was a nice dinner. The food was good, service nice. But we have seen 3 coco roaches!!! A nice restaurant to sample some local dishes of Panama. Within walking distance from the cruise ship's birth. The staff was friendly and helpful. We all enjoyed our meals.

What a disappointment it was to arrive after an exciting trip on the Panama Railroad to this dirty, busy, and totally lacking in any cultural value city. The traffic was horrific and we could not get out of this city fast enough. It is hard to understand why ships stop here and call this visit Panama. What a horrible impression visitors have of Panama if they think this is the real Panama. It is a shame that cruise ships do not have the capability of stopping instead on the Pacific which is completely gorgeous. We used this visit to Colon to move on to Portobelo and Isla Grande which were very invigorating to visit and swim in the Caribbean sea.

Near to Portobello this beach is great. A nice bay with lovely sand and warm Carribean clear water. There is a place to have a beer or a meal on the beach. Parking no problem but recently charging $5.00. Best during the week as weekends can become busy.

This place is a bit pricey for what it is, but the food was so fresh and delicious that we didn't mind. It was very popular because it has free wifi, but there were so many people using the wifi that it didn't properly work. The had ceviche mixto, camarones, tostones, all divine. I would happily go here again.

Coming out of the rain forest and after a day in Panama the last thing you are longing for is a Lebanese restaurant. But the reality is that of the few restaurants by the port, the busiest and most appealing seemed to be serving middle eastern fare. We had been hoping for some version of Central American cooking but were so hungry after our excursion. SO, don't fight it. Order the humous, maybe two, but also get the ceviche--a nod to the Americas. And get the Peruvian chicken. It is amazing. We had an authentic meal, promptly served, although we spoke no words in common, slaked our thirst and went back to our ship stunned and satisfied. JUST GO!

The service and food is very well.
As a regular customer as I'm, I'll say that despite the attitude of a certain personnel who happen to have, what I can call a prejudicial or discriminatory action toward afro Panamanian dinner guests, the treatment is good.
I can underline people who works at the bar and restaurant such has Kenia, Fernando, Diana, Rosa, Juan & Odalis who happen to be good at what they do.
