Once again a beautiful, creative meal and thoroughly appreciated by five of us dining here two weeks ago. This lovely restaurant never fails to please, the atmosphere is quiet and relaxed, the service impeccable with great attention to detail and the food is second to none, in both taste and presentation. It was a birthday celebration, many thanks for my surprise at the end of the evening !

Tarantella is an elegant restaurant serving fresh modern Italian style cuisine with Italian beer on tap, cocktails and a wide range of quality wines. We are child friendly and we can also accommodate large groups for business or pleasure. We are OPEN DAILY from 12-2:30pm for lunch and 5pm till late for evening dining.
Went with my fiancee for the evening whilst staying at the nearby Broughton Craggs.
Reasonably priced, excellent food (and large portions!), and efficient staff. The arancini starter is especially tasty, though the most expensive one on the menu!
Our only complaint (and I expect everyone else's who was there that night) was the noise level. A group of middle-aged women made so much noise, one could scarcely hear themselves think. I think I speak for everyone when I say that it would be appreciated were the management to tell them to quieten down in future, at least to levels within decency. They may have been paying just like everyone else, but why would anyone want to eat in that terrible din?
Overall, a good experience, though I left, admittedly, with a hope of getting some quiet!

We went for a late Sunday meal very quickly shown to a table big enough for us that also included a push chair with a cot. Staff very attentive and very helpful. The drinks and food being very varied will be visiting again.

I came here with some friends for an evening meal. We booked a table in advance, even though it was during the week. It was a good job we did as it was very busy. We all ordered some poppadoms and dips to start. This is always my favourite bit - I enjoy it so much! I had the butter chicken for a main course, which was very tasty. All my friends enjoyed their food. The service was friendly and efficient. When the bill came we decided to query it as the drinks didn’t seem to be correct. The first round of drinks was only 10p more than the second round of drinks. The second round of drinks was the same as the first minus one soft drink. We thought it was odd that a lemonade was 10p? The waiter took the bill away and came back and said that the first round of drinks should actually have cost more so we were actually better off. We accepted this and paid. I will return here for curry soon as it is just so nice.

The Castle Bar is set out over three floors. The downstairs is the main bar area, which has three separate large screen tv's for the sports enthusiasts. The main bar has 5 real ales on tap and has been awarded by CAMRA The 1st floor is two separate dining areas, one of which overlooks the old Market Place. The 2nd floor is the lounge area, which hosts a number of comfy chairs to relax. Tucked outside at the rear is the outside terraced garden area. The Castle Bar is dog friendly.
My recent visit here was a very positive experience. It was delicious food, hot and extremely tasty, the best I’ve had in a very long time. All the family agreed. Steak pie was moist and juicy and the pastry was just right. Homemade chips were amazing. Chicken burger and lamb were likewise very good. Staff were friendly and very attentive. I’m a very fussy customer and would give this a 10 /10. Definitely recommend it and will certainly be back

The Honest Lawyer Restaurant provides a fusion of French Italian influenced English style cuisine. Cooked fresh on the premises by our chefs using ingredients that are locally produced and sources and served with a wide range of wines from around the world, beers ,spirits ,liquors and soft drinks etc.
This is a lovely, restaurant that serves beautiful food; we had shoulder of lamb with mash & veg and pan fried salmon/muscles with new potatoes & veg in a samphire and saffron butter sauce, both were cooked to perfection. It has a really pleasant ambience which the staff just add to with their friendliness. Can't recommend this place highly enough and w me will certainly be revisiting when we are next in the area.

We must have lived in Cockermouth for well over 10 years before we tried this restaurant - more fool us.
Portofino's serves the best steak we have eaten in the UK. I'm sure other things on the menu are good, but we haven't tried them because the steak is perfection. We all eat our steak at differing levels of "doneness" and Portofino's understand how to differentiate (in so many places in the UK it is impossible to tell the difference between rare, medium rare and medium once they get to the table - and it matters). The service is excellent - friendly but not intrusive. It's not cheap, but this relates to the quality of meat being served so we would say it is good value for money.

Cafe and artisan bakery serving lunches and open every Friday for our café-bar featuring continental beers, Cumbrian beers, great wines and pizzas
Food and drinks were nice, unusually selling white tea. Nice friendly service, unfortunately let down by not clearing the table of some of the crockery of the previous diners and not cleaning the table. Some of the other dishes coming out of the kitchen looked very appetising as well.

Opened in 2005 the cafe is open 10am to 5pm 7 days a week, serving hot meals, breakfasts, freshly made sandwiches & panini's, homemade cakes & tray bakes, afternoon teas, milkshakes (using our very own Jersey Ice Cream), local beers, wines, ciders, our our own home made Wellington Jersey Ice Cream. All of which can be eaten either in our lovely cafe or outside on our Terrace which has stunning panoramic views of the Cumbrian Fells. We also have an animal enclosure which has free entry, a play area with outdoor toys and mini quad bikes (payable).
Has great potential but plastic table cloths more like Butlins .Staff very polite and helpful but non organic milk and for me could not eat the cakes the shortbread etc as I am used to better ingredients sorry guys , having said that a lot of people like it as it was busy
