Cēsis (Latvian pronunciation: [tseːsis] ( listen)), (German: Wenden, Livonian: Venden, Estonian: Võnnu, Polish: Kieś) is a town in Latvia located in the northern part of the Central Vidzeme Upland. Cēsis is on the Gauja River valley, and is built on a series of ridges above the river overlooking the woods below. Cēsis was one of the candidate cities for the title of European Capital of Culture 2014 (Riga was the Latvian city that won the title).

We had luncheon on a rainy day. Besides pastry, they serve great cold and hot salads. Interesting idea, a hot salad. It's not a hotpot, there's still structure in it. Also tasty soup. Recommended!

Dropped in here to get some respite from a very cold early spring day and were rewarded by one of the best hot chocolate drinks around
They offer some interesting meal options ( although we didn't sample these) in a nice comfortable setting with views over a small market square

The place is a joke - the pizzas are as far from a proper Italian pizza as Cesis is from Rome!
The pizza dough is simply horrible - I dont know if they buy it frozen or pre-made, but the crust just tastes horribly and the stuff they use for the pizza not to stick to the pan is just awful - it is not flour but some other substance.
The toppings are equally bad - some cheap Latvian cheese, vegetable pizza topping = 90% onions + undercooked champingnones and some paprika all soaked in a store-bought sauce and heavily seasoned with cheap seasoning.
The 1 star I gave is for other pre-heated food that is offered in Latvian bistrot style - stored on hot plates. This tastes very much ok, is quite cheap and fast. Otherwise it would be 0!
If everything else in Cesis is closed and the only place to eat is this cafe - choose the bistro, dont order the pizzas!

We just wanted to have coffee and desserts. Nothing special. Place was crowded that summer Saturday, so it took like 15 minutes to get a menu, another 10 to place orders, 10 to get or desserts and coffee. 35 minutes wasted for 10 mins coffee-break.
Same story was with other guests near-by.
They prefer to serve locals in priority, tourists are left behind. If you are the one, avoid the place in rush-hours. This means literally avoid unless you have plenty of time. Pity.

Really good food. Lovely inside wood everywhere. Very friendly server. It is a short drive from Cesis center, only a few minutes. I think if you are going to Cesis you should have dinner there. There were blankets left on the backs of our chairs in the event we felt cold. Definitely recommend it.

Whenever I come to Cesis I look forward to eating sushi from this place. They are head and shoulders above any sushi place in Latvia, simply by not putting cream cheese in every sushi and by offering different sushi's time and time again.
Their products always taste fresh and you can feel that they are made with care. Prices are very reasonable as well.
The only "issue" is that they are a take-away place, so you cannot enjoy the food on the premises, but it still tastes fantastic, even when eaten from plastic trays. Definitely would recommend to have some sushi at this place, even if for a small bite. Trust me - you will be back for more.

Vegetarian and vegan soups, sandwiches, snacks and desserts in our little cafeteria. All the vegetables are from local farmers. We support green living and care about the nature. It is a place where you come and feel as at home..just need your house slippers. We like to create a common space. And we live life with Concerts and many kind of other events - in summer in the yard, in winter - inside. Oh, yes, and you can check out Latvian designer goods shop!
Well, I wasn't expecting to find a place like this in Latvia, never mind in Cesis. Stumbled across this almost by accident, after seeing some crazy guys lead an old battered horse across town. What we found was a commune-type place with people chilling out in the yard, drinking beer and awaiting the arrival of a French 20s jazz band. Fantastic. My favourite place in Latvia!

We had two suppers at Cafe Priede, both of which were excellent. If excellence in the restaurant business starts with Good food and great Service, this cafe delivered in spades. The staff made us feel like we were part of the Cesis community and would always be welcomed back.

This is place where you could get tasty and simple food. Location is perfect. Prices are affordable. However, this place is renovated recently. If you like simple Latvian/ Eastern Europe food then this is the right place for you. I chose the cold beetroot soup and french fries. Tasty combination for a hot summer day.

They work only in summers, and if the weather is good also some weekend in autumn, as they have only tables outside. So be sure to check before your heading to have some burger, if they are open.
There is a nice patio where to sit and also some blankets, but anyway, if the weather is not too good, it may get cold and nowhere to hide.
They have four different burgers to choose from, I liked the classical the best, but it's matter of taste. The best part of the meal were french fries - those were golden, delicious, with a little sprinkle of rosemary. Mmmmm..
