We stayed at ‘The Astra’ on a business trip in Broken Hill.
I recommend it highly.
Great service, staff, food especially the desert bar, and accommodation.
It’s centrally located, in the city centre.
The owners, David and Marianne were extremely accommodating and couldn’t do enough to make our stay special.
Thanks for a great time.

We chose The Palace for dinner one night in Broken Hill as it received fairly good reviews. When we arrived we were asked if we had a booking - despite the place being almost completely empty - and they managed to "squeeze us in" without one. Our table was by the window and there were dead flies all over the ledge. There were also a number of flies that buzzed around the window. Didn't seem to matter how many we killed there were more and more. We waited forever for someone to come and take our order and then various waiters walked past our empty plates for 30mins while we tried to get their attention. The food was average, the place was dirty. Wouldn't be in a hurry to come back.

The meals took quite some time to come out and there were lots of people who were overheard saying similar things. The meal was quite nice when it finally arrived.
This is basically like any RSL or Foot club that you would go to, so nothing fancy.

This cafe was not our first choice for the dinner but we ended up there as the other 2 preferred restaurants were closed on Sunday evening. Yes there seem to be common that restaurants are closed on Sunday evening, so visitors to Broken Hill be aware.
Anyway, it was not a bad choice because we had prompt and professional service. The cafe was not very busy so meal was served quickly. The pork belly and Morrocan lamb dishes were yummy with reasonable price.
We will try other dishes in the next visit if we have a chance.

Flying solo I had dinner here one night when in town for work. Fair prices for food. Service was also good and on the night I visited reasonably quick. (I note many reviews talk about long wait times- but I didn’t experience this ) Basic...MoreThank you so much for visiting our club while you were in Broken Hill. It is good to get positive constructive feedback which I will be sure to pass on to our chefs. This feedback will only help them to further develop their skills Karren

Visit one of Broken Hill's favourite tourist attractions and get a 'taste' of local history in this classic Australian milk bar. Bells is famous for the range of old style drinks and desserts using our own handmade syrups and cordials served in the original 1956 premises. There is also Jasper organic espresso coffee, free wi-fi (as fast as you can get in Broken Hill), a retro gift shop, and also small milk bar museum attached. Please note that we do serve limited savoury food such as hotdogs, toasted sandwiches, lasagne and quiche including gluten free options. You can also try hot waffles and ice cream, apple pie and muffins.
This place is famous for its milkshakes. The main thing it’s got going for it is the range of flavours... mind boggling! I loved being served in a cold metal milkshake cup. It doesn’t look much from the outside but it’s good.

We ordered some takeaway from Masallas and weren't really impressed with the flavour and quality. The food was a bit bland and doughy.

Renovated 1890's Broken Hill Hotel and now includes a front bar with TAB, lounge bar, bistro, restaurant and function areas. Menus comprise an extensive choice of Australian selections with lesser Indian, Italian and vegetarian/vegan choices. Reverse cycle air conditioning throughout the Hotel and eating areas except for the large function area which only has evaporative air conditioning. Extensive local and international art is displayed throughout the Hotel. Three smoking areas provided throughout the Hotel.
After a disappointing first nights meal in another pub we were looking for a better experience and found it here. The food was exceptional and service outstanding. Zandalee our waitress was friendly and professional. Robert was generous with the size of a glass of wine and delightful with his creative descriptions and passion for the dessert trolley which we could not resist and which did not disappoint. We had such a delightful meal we returned again a few nights later to have the same wonderful experience but this time with even more stories about life in Broken Hill and Silverton. Diverse menu choices including being able to cater for special dietary needs. A bit pricier than some other alternatives but worth it. Will be recommending this establishment to anyone we know coming to Broken Hill.

Not realising that almost all of Broken Hill's shops would be closed on a public holiday we were left pondering what we could find open to buy dinner for the evening. We finally found this chicken shop open and ended up with a very nice meal. Remember nothing is open up there if you are travelling or staying there on a public holiday. We are so spoilt here in Victoria!
