House in a fully renovated 1823 Cape in Blue Hill, Maine, Arborvine opened its doors in July of 2000. Family owned, Arborvine has consistently been offering fresh, locally sourced and thoughtfully prepared fare for nearly two decades.
This was our second visit. Everything about the meal was wonderful. Kate, our server, steered us well, and the various appetizers and entrees were amazing. Everyone of us put our forks down after the first bite and just sighed. This is such a great experience that you need to work into your season.

Black Dinah uses sustainably grown single-origin chocolates. We combine these exquisite chocolates with locally produced ingredients we’ve gathered from a network of farms in Maine.
On a recent visit to Blue Hill, I stopped by Black Dinah. I'm not a chocolate junkie and can pass on most chocolate candy. The chocolates at the Black Dinah are truly works of art and I was convinced that the selling point was the look rather than the taste. I bought a box of the dark chocolate truffle assortment and figured I'd eat one and give the rest to my husband. I ate one and was in heaven. I have never tasted such exquisite candy in my life. I ate the whole box in two days. I'm very glad that I can order these jewels over the internet and can't wait to send them to my family & friends. For once the hype is deserved.

We wandered into Blue Hill to see what this artist colony was about.
We stopped in the right place! In addition to great refreshment we received a wonderful orientation to the whole town (encouraged by us!)
Bucklyn Coffee is a little storefront across the street from the Post Office, so pull in there and look across. Don't miss it!

Small place w/ limited menu and hours. BUT the food is great - freshly prepared, locally sourced, tasty - and the staff is friendly. Wife & I have eaten breakfast there a few times, lunch once. You order at the register; self serve coffee, utensils, etc.; food is brought to your table. If you crave very attentive service and plush surroundings go somewhere else. If tasty, locally sourced food in a pleasant atmosphere is your thing, check out this place.

The Farmhouse Inn treated us amazingly well. The food and wine at the restaurant were fantastic, I especially recommend the bowl of mussels. The staff was very flexible and accommodating. The owners, Bill and Anne, were incredibly generous and warm. We'll be coming back here next year for sure!

It's a nice little seafood shack after the coop just as you turn into Blue Hill coming from Ellsworth and Surrey. They have a take out window and several tables inside. Service inside is friendly and willing by young girls in black "Fish Net" tea shirts . There is no air conditioning so best on a cool day. Clean but no atmosphere. Very good fried seafood like fish and chips or a fried clam platter with good fresh whole fried clams. A very good lobster roll with a little Mayo. Food all seemed fresh and tasty. Prices were a bit high and portions on the smallish size. Not a bargain by any means but we enjoyed our lunch still I don't think we will rush back.

We've been visiting friends in Maine and tonight they took us out to their favorite restaurant, the Barncastle in Blue Hill. We ate outside on the porch which was very pleasant. I ordered an "ocean smoke" pizza (something like that): pizza with scallops, crab and oysters. One of the best pizzas I have ever eaten! My wife really liked her crab cakes.
As I said, we are outside but I did take a peek inside and the place is charming.
I recommend it highly.

Marlintini's is a bit out of town and a more local restaurant, not so trendy for the tourists. It is a solid choice: nothing too fancy but dependably good food. It has basic wood booths and tables, and some artistic decor. It's not fancy, but pleasing in an understated sort of way. Service is fine. Prices are about what you would expect. The menu has the usual favorites. This is a reliable choice, but nothing exceptional.

The café is an appendage to the food co-op, one of the oldest in the state of Maine (40+ years). Very basic fare here, diner-type breakfast food, lunch sandwiches, good coffee (but no sugar substitutes except for honey!). The portions are small to medium sized, but the prices are reasonable, and the coffee and tea is excellent. The space is small and cozy, and apt to be crowded at meal times. Family friendly and occasionally noisy on account of that. Mostly organic food, attracts a health-conscious crowd of eaters, mainly locals who work in the area, but it's also a good place for tourists looking for a quick and healthful lunch in a cozy but not posh atmosphere. No free wifi, unfortunately, but the cellular service is strong in the area. I eat here once a month and am never disappointed.

New restaurant. Opened about 3 weeks ago.
If I owned an establishment that made lobster rolls I would hire a private detective to find where they buy their perfectly sized, soft, lightly grilled and buttered roll. The lobster, sure it's plentiful and sweet, but so are plentry of other shacks that choose to use a cheap hotdog bun. If your looking for sophisticated ambiance, keep driving. If you want authentic middle of the boatyard maine, stop here.
