We’d heard a lot about Eschalot but never dined here before so thought we’d try it.
Saturday night - and gave the degustation menu with matching wines a try.
EVERY course was just brilliant. Not pretentious but just great inventive courses with quality produce.
I don’t think we could even pick a favourite because hey were all good - the goat’s cheese soufflé was brilliant, as was the quail breast and the barramundi. The beef tenderloin was cooked really well and the dessert was absolutely lovely.
Service was attentive without being intrusive. We honestly can’t fault the experience - best in the southern highlands by a mile.

Having frequently eaten at the Magpie Cafe enroute to Sydney or on return to Canberra, I organised to meet my cousins for lunch today. Well what a disappointment! I ordered the scotch fillet medium rare. The first bite failed to return any flavour and as I cut through I
Noticed the flesh was actually blue. When I provided feedback, the chef failed to present nor was there even a suggestion to reduce the bill. So Magpie, I’m sorry to say I won’t be frequenting your marble doorstep again.
Went to pay the bill and passed another table who were also enjoying a medium rare steak. Sent back to chef because it was also blue.
Same day - same place - safe quality - do not order the steak.

Went for lunch during the week. Restaurant a quarter full.
Ordered a glass of wine which was splashed on the table - unnoticed by our waitress. The wines, both reds, were served very warm. Disappointing for a winery as reds at this temperature don’t show at their best.
We ordered the duck and an Aged Rib Eye steak. My wife enjoyed the duck but the steak was dreadful. It was served swimming in a butter sauce which was competing with another green sauce - it didn’t look appealing. The steak was fatty with a lot of gristle. I told the serving staff I regretted my choice and they indicated that it was a very fatty cut. It was an expensive lunch which, on this occasion, simply wasn’t worth it.

We had the 5 course dining experience and were not disappointed. Beautiful tasty courses with wonderful flavours and beautiful presentation. We had lunch and sat outside - very relaxing yet professional. The decor is understated and slick with interesting artwork and creations.Yes up there price wise, but worth the experience.
Can't wait to go back and taste the results of the new smoker.

Local Italian Restaurant, family owned and operated, serving delicious, hearty and honest food & wine.
Onesta never dissapoints and delivers a fine, yet relaxed dining experience. There is always a friendly welcome, the decor is a combination of modern and traditional with a cosy atmosphere due to the subdued colour palette. The food is Italian with a modern twist. One gripe is having to pay extra for sides, as the mains are small without something extra. There is a comprehensive wine list with by the glass available. A great destination for a romantic evening, family dinner, or gathering of friends.

Just like any other pub, in any other country town, this place serves VERY basic food, albeit it serves it pretty well.... Hamburgers, nachos, basic steaks, chicken parmigiana, chicken schnitzel... you know the drill... But the place redeems itself with a good vibe, it's very clean, well maintained. Service is pretty quick, drinks (from the bar) are reasonable, it's all over within 90mins (including dessert, again of the usual cheesecake, waffles et al).
Not critical, but not effusive. This is 2 x straight lines - you'd swear you were middle of the road.

Finally we have visited R&W for lunch and we were very impressed. The space is very attractive in a modern casual and slightly warehouse feel. The menu is extensive and focused on wholesome food beautifully presented and generous in size. Consider sharing!! There are a lot of vegetarian options which appeal even to devoted carnivores. Coffee was excellent and there are some appealing sweeter treats which don't come with too much guilt. Our only disappointment was the service. We were politely informed there might be a wait from the kitchen however there was a wait for everything. If the kitchen is busy then assuring your clients have a drink is pretty basic. Then after we had cleaned our plates of all the food we waited and waited for them to be cleared and to be asked if we would like a coffee. The staff were friendly however could do well to serve clients rather that chatting!!! Sorry but that's what happened.

What we thought would be a GoogleMaps find for quick snack on a detour around a long delay on the Hume Highway, became a most pleasant surprise. Delicious food, served quickly, in a very popular friendly little restaurant on this rainy Sunday afternoon. We ordered three vegetarian items and they were the best vego plates we’ve had in years. Plenty of parking roadside too. Worth the detour!

Southern Italian Trattoria, specialising in homemade traditional Italian meals. We pride ourselves on all forms of Italian cuisine from beautiful meats, locally sourced cheeses, fresh seafood and piping hot Pizza straight out of our traditional pizza oven.
Our first visit to Eccetera was great (I think under new owners). Best pizza in the highlands, authentic. We also had the steak, stuffed calamari, torta caprese and panacotta for dessert which were all delicious. Friendly staff, we’ll definitely return and recommend to others.

Yes we returned again. Just can't get enough of this food. Love their Portuguese tarts and their chocolate brownie cheesecake slice. Also took away olives , jam , blue cheese dip and Morro can lamb tangine. Coming back in November were this is becoming a standard part of our trips. A great place with beautiful produce.
