Don’t have fish and chips very often but when they are just what you fancy you hope that you are not disappointed. At Carlo’s you will not be disappointed. Fish and chips were superb - so was the tea. Really nice to eat inside too rather than from a box or newspaper.
Give them a try.

Never ever had a meal here that was not excellent.
Service is always first class and food is superb, whether it is a Lunctime offering or an evening meal with all the trimmings.
Given a choice wouldn't go anywhere else in Alnwick and for anyone planning on visiting Alnwick this place is a "Must"

I'm allergic to fish and seafood and yet this has become my favourite restaurant in Northumberland. After repeated visits we've come to expect wonderful homely hospitality where no little request is too much but it's also clear that the staff take enormous (and justifiable) pride in the food that they produce. There's a Northumbrian/Portuguese/Brazilian fusion thing going on that is rather delightful.
Booking is pretty much essential but well worth it. The views from the restaurant are amazing, almost as good as the food!
If I could change one thing it would be the opening hours, I wish that this wonderful restaurant could be open all year round but understand that providing this level of brilliance leaves the team in need of a much deserved break over the winter.

An authentic Italian restaurant almost next door to the theatre, making it perfect for lunch or dinner before a show or film.

Bari [baa-ree] - Lovely in Northumberland.
Contemporary tea brewery, with a traditional Northumberland heart: fine teas and teaware to try before you buy.
Open 7 days during school holidays, closed Tues & Weds in Term time. Please check our website for details.
I returned here after nearly a year of not visiting the place and was not disappointed. I was reminded about the incredible attention to detail of the world of teas that this place encapsulates. The staff are very knowledgeable and always ready to talk about tea from around the world. It is easy to miss the place if you are a visitor to town - head down Narrowgate in the direction of the Castle and Bailiffgate and it is on the right hand side. the food menu is small but the produce is excellent. It is a lovely, beautifully decorated tearoom and ideal for tea and cakes.

Open every day except Christmas Day, 9:30-17:00. (Last orders for hot food, 16:00 Winter; 16:30 Summer) The Station Buffet is owned and operated by Barter Books - one of the largest secondhand bookshops in Britain and the home of the famous Keep Calm and Carry On poster. The inviting ambiance includes an open fire in three of the rooms, while the menu specializes in the owners' own preference for comfort food at its best - all of which is home-made, using local produce whenever possible. This ranges from soups to bacon sandwiches to Northumbrian rarebit to baked goods to die for! Also on offer: barista coffee, teas, hot chocolate - and, yes, wine, too!
I have stopped for a coffee on previous visits but this time after a brief browse at maps we decided to stay for lunch. The buffet was extremely busy as we arrived at about 1pm but we managed to find one spare table.
On the specials menu was a kitchuri curry made from lentils and rice - it was delicious. Not too spicy but extremely tasty and I would definiely choose it again.
The staff were continuously busy serving food and clearing tables but stayed jolly and pleasant throughout the time we were there.
Before we left there was time for another browse, this time through some of the amazing books.
I bought a gift voucher - a really useful alternative to give as present.

Grannies Tea room and Delicatessen was established around 1984, then the tearoom only held a couple of tables placed within the shop. It was only later, in 1989, that the intimate downstairs tea room was developed within the basement where the old fashioned coal chutes, old style steps, fireplace and flagstone flooring can still be seen. Grannies is a strong advocate for the local food movement in Alnwick, and offers a wide range of local produce within the deli, shop and tea room.
A real gem of a place , small coffee shop under a delicatessen. Food amazing - baguettes filled with LOTS of tasty delicious fresh fillings such as chicken , Brie and chilli rum chutney. Delicious cakes.Coffee lovely too. All staff are so friendly and helpful - definitely recommend a visit

We visited the pub in the evening as we were staying across the road in a holiday cottage. The food is amazing, my husband said he had the best gammon steak ever! Great value and plenty of choice. The staff including the landlord are friendly...MoreThank you very much for your brilliant review so pleased you enjoyed your meal at The Horseshoes. Hopefully we may see you again soon if in the area or if you stay in the cottage in the village it is a beautiful cottage too.
