Founded by the caliph of Cordoba, this Andalucian city on Spain’s southeast coast is a reminder of the region’s Muslim history. The Alcazaba, a massive fort, dominates the city and affords amazing views. Also worth experiencing are the cathedral and the Almeria Museum. East of the city is the rugged, desolate Cabo de Gata-Nijar coast, a protected area. To the west is the resort area of Roquetas de Mar, featuring vast beaches.

A simple and unassuming bar, just beyond the centre of the city, it was, nevertheless, easy to find, but the crowd spilling out onto the pavement. Order your drink and the tapa comes free! In this place, by far the most popular choice is a tapa of patatas bravas - large chunks of boiled potatoes with a tangy, slightly spicy tomato sauce. Popular throughout Spain, but especially wonderful here.

We went with friends who are known for their excellent taste and visits to expensive restaurants. However this was not expensive and it did not disappoint in any way. It was superb. The location isn't easy to find but well worth hunting out. The restaurant is set in several very nicely decorated caves. The waiters/waitresses were impecably dressed and knowledgable. The menu had an excellent choice and it was possible to view the fresh fish beforehand. I had the honey coated crispy aubergines for starters - lovely; the Iberian pork main course lovely and couldn't manage a desert as we had such big servings. With bread, bottle of wine, coffees I was astonished that the cost for 4 people was under 100 euros. The best restaurant I've been to in Almeria Province after 3 years here.

We were driving to Malaga from Valencia and needed a midpoint stop for lunch. Stumbled on this quaint little village Velez Rubio and the best find of midway lunch stop. Great fired hotplate grilled steaks perfect for sharing for our family of 2 adults and 2 hungry teenagers! Didn't expect the fresh juicy tuna and cod with mixed green salad. Definitely recommended especially as they stay open for siesta and offer excellent service too.

We found this restaurant as it was near our hotel (Tryp Indalo) and we hadn't eaten while travelling here. We had to wait until it opened for the evening at 8.30, got there at 8.45 and were really lucky to get the last unreserved table. However we were really impressed by the staff who made us so welcome, and we were never once neglected despite there being two large parties ( one of about 15 and one of about 30 people) at the same time. The restaurant dies some excellent new tapas with a twist, but we went for comfort food - raciones of tomato salad (with warm cod fillets) and huevos con jam on y pimiento. Both were superb - best quality huevos con jamon ever. The tomato salad was especially memorable. Desserts were ok but not spectacular. Two corses to share, desserts each, beer and four glasses of wine - and a bill of just €43. Plus complimentary glasses of Pedro Ximenez. Who could fault this? We will be back next time we are this way.

We made a point of finding this restaurant as a result of excellent reviews on TripAdvisor. We weren't disappointed. The decor is smart and modern, and the food provides a modern twist on some traditional dishes, along with some new ones. There is an excellent wine list. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, and the service and attention we were given. Gazpacho was first class, calamities were very good, and we shared a main dish of cochinillo (suckling pig) crisply cooked in little pieces. When the waiter recommended a small portion of cheese to help us finish our very good Ribera del Duero winnow were not disappointed p we were served a manchego which was voted the world's best cheese (out of 2700 cheeses) at a UK cheese fair! And it was! Desserts were equally excellent, and with every dish the chef came out to check that we were satisfied. All in all a very good evening!

Very busy even in monday evening. We were lucky to got the last available table at the bar side. Different tapas selection is nicely display at bar. We choose our food from the menú. My cheese plate was good selection of different cheeses. Kobe mini Burger was dissapointment. If that was Kobe meat, it was so tastles. Normally Kobe is totally different. Main courses was ok. Buey secreto was a bit too greasy. Service was very good. When we receive the bill, we feel that it was a bit too expensive comparing the quality.

Went to the sister restaurant Almedina Baraka opposite th fortress. Lovely courtyard setting. The starters were good. My husband had a mix of kebabs and I had thhad almond soup. We both had cous cous for the main. This was disappointing. It was bland. My vegetable one had some chickpeas and a couple of pieces of carrot and courgette. My husband had the same but with some chicken on the top. The pastries with coffee were lovely. Beware they don't serve alcohol.

Tapas bar and specializes in the cuisine and local products rations.
The review specifically said suitable for vegetarians/ vegetarian friendly. Yes the staff were friendly and helpful, and the bar had a nice vibe, but the selection of tapas suitable for vegetarians and the level of innovation didn’t exactly blow my mind...i expected more. I think there were 4 veggie tapas..1 was Patatas bravas & another was a cheeseboard

Looked nicer from the outside than other restaurants on the same street so decided to give it a try.
They have a bilingual menu from which we ordered chicken on a skewer and ox meat mini burgers. Tasty enough, but both were served with very nice looking roasted potatoes that were cold. I would have preferred them hot, but apparently that is not the tradition. Reasonably priced.

This is a great little restaurant with helpful staff. The croquettes were amazing offering a huge variety of flavours. There are lots of places to eat in Almeria however I recommend adding this to the list.
