A short Metro ride from Washington DC, Alexandria, Virginia is the perfect escape from the fast-paced capital. First settled in 1695, the city retains its colonial spirit, with cobblestone streets and historic buildings in the Old Town, Gadsby's Tavern, a restaurant serving food since 1770, and centers of learning like the Black History Museum. For a more contemporary side of Alexandria, wander the streets of the stylish Del Ray neighborhood, where local artists operate boutiques and studios.

Good Indian restaurants can be found just about any location, including this unappealing strip mall. Namaste not only has a big menu with the standard Indian fare, but also some Nepalese variations with obvious Chinese influence. We were not adventurous and enjoyed standards like samosas, butter chicken, chicken korman, tika masala, etc. Everything was on point and delicious. The service was fine, but we did not require much attention. Again, the atmosphere is dull and lacks charm, but the food is just fine, which is what matters most.

This is a wonderful little restaurant with amazing food. We were fortunate to arrive just in time to get a table, it is small and seating is limited, well worth the wait. Everything we ordered was perfect from the summer roll starters to the Vietnamese ice ca phe, not a thing I would change. The menu is diverse - suitable for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. Bowls of pho to perfect banh mi sandwiches, choosing is a challenge. Cannot wait to return to try something new!

We are in our late 70s and often have lunch as our main meal. We have enjoyed our meals here but this time we were surprised: the lunch menu has fewer items we love. Wife enjoyed stuffed cabbage, brought back great memories. I come here for one reason ... I totally love the wiener schnitzel ... and, it was great.

Whenever I have a hankering for a great Greek Gyro, Vaso Kitchen is my go to spot. Vaso’s sets the standard for tast bud popping Gyros, with plenty of meat, feta all the fillings are freshly prepared. French fries are hot, crispy and accompany the Gyros so well. I have popped into Vaso’s on several occasions thinking I was going to try something else, I just never get there. Easy parking in their lot or on the street. Oh yeah – Good affordable wine selection and a good beer list. Friendly, helpful wait staff.

Sacre Bleu! I've been enjoying gustatory excellence here since it format started as L'Estaminet and through its change to Le Refuge... If just gets better!
Was in Alexandria, VA today (12/2/17) for the annual Scottish Walk (I am a Stewart!) and was searching to find a place for lunch for four of us. Called Le Refuge (right on N Washington St up from King in the center of Old Town) and snapped up a table for four before others could! We were all happily pleased!
We had some luncheon specials (Endive with Roquefort, Walnuts and Apples Salad, Cassolet, Quiche Loraine and Bouillabaisse) and some from the main menu (French Soup a L'Onion). The wine was a superb Chef Suggested Le Macon White Bordeaux.
They were ready to seat us when we arrived slightly early. Service was fast and attentive. All our appetizers and entrees came out for us together, but following so we were not hurried. Water and wine refilled unobtrusively...
You cannot go wrong experiencing this restaurant! C'est Magnifique!

Located in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, the Warehouse is one of the area's most popular restaurants specializing in prime aged steaks and fresh seafood. The superb food is served in a casual but elegant atmosphere that features caricatures of the local gentry on the walls of the historic building. Enjoy their Steak "Pontchartrain" or their famous all-lump crab cakes. Don't miss their very popular Sunday brunch. Enjoy a drink at their antique mahogany bar.
We had dinner here on Thursday after taking the boat back from the Nationals home opener. We were seated right away and had an excellent server. All four meals ( jambalaya, fillet, catfish, and udon noodle veggie dish) were very good. All agreed we would order our meals again. The she crab soup was wonderful and the bread went with it quite well. Prices were on par for a nice place in Alexandria.

For New Orleans native, this small casual restaurant is one of only two restaurants in DC Metro area that actually serves authentic cajun and creole food. Other is Acadiana which is pricier, but honestly not better. Sampled 5 different dishes and all were well made and tasted correct. 30 plus year restaurant with same chef almost as long - they got it right. Dessert of caramel creme is authentic, old New Orleans recipe that was a tradition in famous restaurants there - you never see it outside of New Orleans these days (except here). Very good food, good service, very reasonably priced.

In town for a vacation and after asking locals this was THE PLACE. Made reservation via open table Noted our 15th Anniversary and wanted romance. Upon arrival no acknowledgement of our requests. Food was good/great but service and drinks was poor. Dessert was horrible. Errors on dinner order not noticed. Tried to remedy after meal done. I wanted veggie not potato. Given potatoes
Manager or owner was on site but never came by said hi or even acknowledged an issue. Women bathroom was a 2 out of 5 for clean.
Steaks were great but we were left with nothing but overall disappointing event.

We really enjoyed our dinner here this past week.......wonderful food, attentive service. A bit noisier than what we would have preferred, but nothing that we could do about that.
The menu offers quite a nice variety of options....from appetizers to sandwiches/salads to main entrees.
I selected the Old Bay Shrimp (normally an appetizer) as my meal. The portion was more than I expected......at least 15 "you-peel-them" shrimp....and they were absolutely delicious. My spouse tried their Lobster Roll and was happy with that too.
Hanks is located on King Street, so it's very convenient and easy to find. We'd HIGHLY recommend making reservations, though. The restaurant was busy from the moment we arrived until the time we left.....and we can understand why.
A place to definitely put on your "Must Eat Here" list!

Dinner here with my wife on her birthday. The Taverna has most of the traditional dishes you would expect, with nice portion sizes, very good service, and tasty food. A nice location with a great atmosphere, and be prepared for typical Old Towne pricing.
