Sometimes you just have a pleasant surprise! This was our experience at the Cantinetta. It is a little pizzaria tucked into a nice corner of the entry to Trancoso´s busy tourist district. The location was nice and atmosphere attractive - so we entered. The service was immediate and friendly. Best of all was the pizza - this is real authentic Italian pizza - thin crust - and most importantly saboroso - tasty - not over done on flavor - but perfect. To me the measure of a pizzaria in Brazil is how well they make the Margarita - we had two pizzas - the Margarita and the Calebreza - it was absolutely the BEST Margarita I have ever experienced. It was the first Calebreza that my wife has loved. The way of tucking the sliced tomato under the cheese - perfect basil seasoning and excellent crust! It was unbelievable! They have excellent brazilian fruit juices or other drinks to go with the pizza - we tried several juices - and loved them. The crepe which we ordered for dessert was outstanding and we left very very happy - wanting to return. From the brick oven which is positioned near the entry - to the covered pergola in the back and varied comfortable tables placed around the open air restaurant - to the well mannered staff and excellent cook - to the last moment with the chef - who we wanted to thank - we LOVED the Cantinetta - the person who had a bad experience here - probably doesn´t have a taste for real italian food! This was fantastic! Thanks we will be back.

So. Much. Choice. One large table groaning with salads and vegetables, another filled with grilled and roasted meats and prepared dishes and all of it absolutely delicious. I say all of it - I barely sampled 5% of what was available - but my 9 companions certainly attempted to taste the rest. Returned on the following day eager to try what Iâd missed, only to find a whole different set of dishes, equally good. And then we found the dessert room...... Elevated Brazilian homestyle cooking. Great flavour to the dishes. Our moquecas of dorada and camarao were absolutely delicious!Quality service, napkins, drinks etc. And as mentioned by others, you get great service and table visits from the owner and his English speaking maitre'D daughter.

We visited more than once as part of a wedding party. A very good selection of all types of foods catering to all tastes. Self service so you take and get only what you want and need and they weight it. Only problem was that lunch for 2 yesterday with two beers each was over US$60 - and that was after a 10% group discount! Maybe we are greedy but we didn't feel that stuffed upon leaving.

Food in Caraiva is very pricey. Here you can get a PF (set menu) for R $25-32 depending on what you choose: veggies, chicken or fish.I got the grilled fish. It came with rice, very tasty farofa (with banana), beans and a fresh salad.It was a rather big portion which I managed to eat alone being quite hungry.I ended up paying R$42 including a soft drink and 10% service taxes. So not cheap, but okay for Caraiva standards.Friendly service.I would go back.
